So the only legitimate use of 3D is "Juicing up overt exploitation"? Ya, Avatar and Prometheus (not to mention The Avengers) were all about gratuitous blood, guts and boobs. Oh, wait, I forgot, you actually DO believe that about Avatar...

Sure they're bad, but I own them all anyway...

I actually saw this movie in the theaters! Really, I did! I know, how unfortunate! But there still remains one scene in this movie that stands out. There was one character who liked to walk on his hands. I remember his death being brutal, even for Friday the 13th movies. He had just banged his girlfrind and was getting them something to eat, and was walking on his hands down the hall way when Jason appeared, and chopped him almost in half between his legs! Now THAT scene did get a fairly animated reaction from all the guys and most of the ladies in the audience! The guys froaned and hunkered over; the ladies laughed at us!

So... it can also be used to pretty up a film and distract people from weak and/or poorly constructed plots/scripts?

I have the box set with all the first 8th F13, always fun to watch them all.

jsmulligan: Yes it can. See Avatar.

Wow, it got a "X" rating back then?  Seems tame by today's standards...."R" sounds right to me, in this case.

Jedi, I think I have that same set!  Though I'm slightly disappointed that it doesn't include the 3D version just for the gimmick of it like my Nightmare on Elm Street set came with 3D glasses for the ending of Freddy's Dead!

This is actually one of my favorite Fridays, in large part because you get to see his face quite a bit near the end.  Like Rob said, it's iconic for being the first to put the hockey mask on Jason.  I mean, is there any more look that's synonymous with "serial killer"?  And I actually watched Part IV on Netflix one night last week.  Also a goodie.  For some reason when I was a I kid I always thought there was no Part IV because I had never seen it and could never find it at the local Blockbuster.  I thought it was some sort of weird trick the film makers played on us by just jumping straight into Part V, which was an awful installment.  Felt so cheated at the end when it turned out that the killer wasn't even Jason.
