I remember this from that time...Rocky 3, WOK, ET and Poltergiest.  Hell, that was a really good year for films.

I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid at a drive in while my Dad was stationed in Rota Spain.  I still choke up  when Scotty says...."He stayed at his post......"....Great Movie.

I hate to disagree with all of you who think Wrath was a better "Star Trek" movie than TMP. I persoanly LOVE TMP, and to me it's the simple fact that it relys on INTELLIGENCE and deep story rather than action, and that makes it a true Star Trek movie.....again, IMHO!

Wrath was "exciting" and had lots of "action", but the story was very basic: Enemies collide and fight to the death. Not much else cereberal going on there. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch Wrath and then follow with Search.....they make a great Duology. But, I can sit back, pop in my TMP DVD and absolutely dive into that story and the whole look and feel of the film.

I'm more of a "true" Sci-Fi fan than an "action" Sci-Fi fan. The Day The Earth Stood Still is a great example.....and my personal All-Time favorite film, 1971's The Andromeda Strain. Neither film has much "action" what-so-ever, but their stories, acting, and pure Sci-Fi feel is what makes them so special for me. The Andromeda Strain is amazing. You feel as though you are back in 1971 with some kind of film crew filming the actual events as they unfolded. Brilliant acting, and absolutely fantastic story. A true Classic if there ever was one!

Ah, Poltergeist! Just like Speilberg did with Alien Encounter on a grand scale with Close Encounters, he changed and set the bar for the "haunted house" "ghost story" movies for all-time! Quite possibly the greatest ghost story movie ever done. Nothing before or since can match it! 1982 had a TON of great movies, and Poltergeist was one of the best from that year!

WOK....action movie...nooooooooooooooooo!  It was an emotional journey.

One trumped by the sequels.  But, I really like to pretend that it ended with a dead Spock.  And, a "dead" that Bones couldn't fix.

Eagle is the andromeda strain the movie where they are trapped in a bunker/silo with a virus that keeps mutating and they cannot stop it.  And just before it leaks it mutates again and is no longer a threat to humans?

If not,  can someone tell me the name of said movie?  I remember seeing it as a kid, but can not remember what the name was.

TheStormrider, The Anderomeda Strain is about a virus that is brought back to a special undergorund lab that they keep it in to determine a "cure" for it. It mutates several times, and then escapes from containment and the Lab has a Nuclear Self Destruct to prevent that, concuding in a race against time to stop the nuclear device from gowing off and spreading Andromeda all over the planet. If that was what you were referring to, then yes, you are correct. It came out in 1971, but had a TERRIBLE remake done on Sci-Fi Channel, so ignore that one and see the original!
