2 trips back to 1982 in the same day?

Nicely put Rob and like Blade Runner another great argument against those who use critical response as a gauge for which films to see.

I still wish we had gotten a proper sequel, nevertheless it's probably for the best as the ending is a big part of the film's mystique

I remember being a young boy and watching this film..... I didn't allow my dog to sleep in the same room for months. It was so nice to have no idea who the villian was or where, the isolation and the paranoia that just kept building until they would show you some of the best special effects of that time with enough attention to the lighting that it suspended disbelief.

Ive yet to watch the Prequill, did you find it woth watching Wise?

It wasn't until I was in college that I saw John Carpenter's masterful The Thing and I have held it in the highest regards since.  The true test of any horror film is whether or not you still get scared after multiple viewings.  This film is one of the rare ones that does.

MrEt sorry can't tell you. I didn't catch it as soon as it came out and quickly fell off my radar. Still want to see it and may end up buying the dvd. It's just not a high priority so it may be end up being a pleasant surprise due to no expectations.

@Fuzzy Another good test is if future generations still jump out of their seats, cover their eyes etc.. and by that measure it still holds up.

@Wise Thought with you saying a "proper" sequel that the prequall was less than proper, or good for that matter.

On that note I guess its time I get off my ass and get it rented.

It's certainly my favorite Horror movie of all time; it gets all levels of suspense, gore, chills, etc perfectly.  I love the lighting to create the moods practically out of my nightmares and putting it on the screen.

This movie has stood the test because you like the fact that the fear is driven by suspicion and mystery....the horror is an added bonus, including the ending where you're still not sure what happened or how it actually ended?

The 1950s version is still better.  Other than Halloween and Assault on Precinct 13, John Carpenter's films have always left me cold.  I watched this movie once and that was enough for me.

Truly one of the best horror flicks. It's in my Top Ten.

A shame that the remake... oh, sorry, prequel... was such a mess of a rip-off.
