A new sci-fi action thriller is on the horizon courtesy of Summit Entertainment. The indie distributor acquired the rights for Arena from new screenwriters Toby Wagstaff and Darren Howell, reports Variety.

Plot Concept: Story centers on a group of modern-day soldiers who are mysteriously transported from the thick of battle to a terrain-shifting landscape where they must fight the best warriors of all different eras and histories in a gladiatorial fight to the death -- or be killed by the all-powerful operators of the "Arena."

that sounds very cool, as long as they get good fighters for the various warriors.

I'm guessing aliens. Could be cool. Could be direct-to-SciFi. We'll see...

reminds me of Kirk vs. the Gorn

I wonder if the outcome of said battles have the same repercussions as that episode.

Sounds B-movie-ish, but might be a fun action flick.

This could be great but it will depend on the director on whether this will be a really great action movie or be done at the basic level of stuff being "blowt up reel guud."

This sounds like it could be real good. I don't think they need to have real good fighters (ala martial artists) since the shifting landscape is probably going to require some adapting and tactical thinking. Hope is more than just another Mortal Kombat.

Brace yourself, I am going to say what everyone else has said already, are you ready? I think this could be real good depending on the director and the actors casts...There you go, my two cents worth and your two cents worth and everybody's two cents worth, since we all have the same opinion that is...Yahoo!

Now are all the fighters going to be taken from Earth's history? I think it'd be even more awesome if the soldiers from Earth had to fight alien soldiers of different races. Can you picture Roman gladiators engaged in hand-to-hand combat with a Predator (without all its tech gear though)?? That would be a movie I would love to see, but I hope a decent director jumps on board and not someone like Paul W.S. Anderson.
