Summit Entertainment may have received their recent infusion of cash from romantic vampires (Twilight franchise) but it looks like the distributor may be branching out into the darker world of witches and warlocks. Deadline Hollywood reports the studio has picked up Cory Goodman's pitch The Last Witch Hunter and have tasked Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) to oversee production development and likely direct.

Adam Goldworm is exec producer. Goodman’s credits include the upcoming Paul Bettany-starrer Priest and a Spyglass remake of David Cronenberg’s The Brood.

Plot Concept: The story centers on a protagonist who is one of the last remaining witch hunters, a breed that keeps the population of witches and warlocks in check. They are about to repopulate in a major way unless he can stop them.

Sounds like it could be interesting, especially with Bebambetov's visual style . But I bet alot of modern day Wiccans and Pagans will be pissed that their religion is being cast in a bad light again in these modern, more sensitive times.

Monkeyfoot: I agree. However If Wiccans and Pagans cant handle it try being a christian. We get slammed in everything by everyone. Hell Religion is still the #1 reasion we all use to kill people.

I would agree monkeyfoot, but I'm willing to assume that Hollywood witchcraft is usually nothing at all like the real thing anyway, and I'm sure Wiccans and Pagans are well aware of that too.  The Hollywood brand I'm sure resembles very little of their religion.  For that matter, even Wiccan and Pagan friends of mine admit that they don't generally think of it as religion, and are never sure what to call themselves.  Apparently there are even more ways to be a Wiccan or Pagan than there are denominations in Christianity.

Pilgram, I couldn't help but read your statement. How the F@#k can say christians have it tough? Yo have your own books, movies, music, and television stations! It says "IN god we trust" on our currency! We have to say "Under god" in the pledge of alligance! There are 2 billion of you bastards! You are the largest religon in the world. So don't say you have it tough when you are clearly in control.

Sounds a lot like the whole "vampire hunter keeping vampires from spilling out onto the streets" thing.

xenomorph: I second that. Christians having it tough? Yeah, and dairy farmers can't milk cows because the teets are too far away to grab. The only place where Christians have it tough is with their own self-righteous attitudes. Wiccans and Pagans never had a bad name until Christianity got involved; branding every one of them evil and Satanists because of their practice and killing them for it. Salem Witch Trials anyone? At least Wiccans and Pagans have a good reason for being pissed when seeing their religion cast in a bad light. Christians do not because most of you are the dirty, two-faced, backstabbing bastards portrayed in movies and books.

Just like Hollywood F SOMETHING UP! Witch Hunter is based on an animation titled, “Witch Hunter Robin” where the focus was on the girl named Robin. This the same person that changed the premise story line of Wanted which was a great comic series to read. I will not have any interest in seeing his vision of Witch Hunter.
