I did have one bone to pick with Abrams though.

Instead of having a tie-fighter model in the kids room... he could have had an Enterprise model. I mean come on Abrams thats your franchise now! Give it some love!

Isn't everybody on the edge of their seats to see Mr Popper's Penguins next weekend?

Not.

That's true Clown, however, I don't think many kids were geeked up on Star Trek back in '79. Star Wars ruled.

exciting for this movie, maybe will be a black horse this summer

Harry Potter will be the clear cut box office champ this summer. I expect 350 million North American and 1 billion worldwide. That's my guess.

I think GL will open to $50-55 million. Maybe 60 at the long end if enough people are suckered...umm..'enticied' to see it in 3D. Capt. America, on the other hand, I think is going to be the movie of the summer. Mostly because Marvel isn't cramming it down everyone's throats like the Green "DoritosExLaxViagraChevyTacoBellHasbroAtariEnsureDepends" Lantern ads have been doing for the last three months.

GL will probably excite the fanboys but there's still some cheesiness about the trailers. I think the general audience might hold back on this one. Only time will tell. 5 more days and I'll be there to see for myself.

I expect a 125 million dollar opening for Green Lantern.....

...just kidding. My ash has been torched so many times this year with predictions and estimates, I give up. But I gotta think the 3D is going to push this movie to at least a 60 million dollar opening. GL has been around as long as Thor & X-Men, he's known, and it promises to at least be a visual feast.

As for 8, was good, the kids were great, believable, and I'd give the movie a solid B . Wise said it best, it boiled down to Gov't bad guys/good E.T., but the kids were definitely the best part of the film. And the father/son aspect was nicely done too.

Lastly, really bummed about X-Men. Was hoping it could have pulled in closer to 30 mil this weekend. It's a shame when movies that are rated positively by moviegoers (Thor, X-Men, Fast Five) get stuck behind crap like POTC or Hangover II, that simply are there for making money. I vow to not see another Pirates film in theaters.

Not to change threads, but did anyone watch Game of Thrones tonight? I only started watching this epicness after the 3rd or 4th episode, and know nothing of the books. Tonight was crazy!

And not to change threads again, but Kostya Tsyzu got inducted into the Boxing HOF this weekend. He was a baaaaaaad man. That dude was the precursor to Pacman, and I would have given my left nut to see them meet in their primes. Truly don't know who'd have won

Super 8 was a lot of fun.  A Solid B   I took my son and he loved it.  For me, it reminded me of what it was like to be a kid back then and my group of friends which numbered 5-6 on any given day.
