At least Superman would have done something besides pick up heavy things.

Remember back in the mid-late 1990s when Tim Burton was developing 'Superman Lives'? They were building sets for the Daily Planet in Pittsburgh. Nicolas Cage was signed to star for a huge pay-or-play deal. Cameras were going to role at any second...and then the whole thing collapsed (much to the relief of fans everywhere).
How bizarre would that movie have been?
Well, a Japanese Tim Burton fan site has uncovered a slew of drawings and models of Brainiac from the film, not to mention numerous additional concept sketches of other things that are difficult to recognize.
Is that the resurrection suit Superman? Or the cyborg? Or the Eradicator?
What's with the little Edwards Superhands drawing? Is that Superboy?
Click through for a look at the drawings because they are fascinating. Any of you who read Japanese can help us out by posting translations in the comments below.
One thing that is clear is Burton's plans for Brainiac, which has him as a disembodied head who apparently utilizes various robotic bodies. The fan site has posted a video displaying Burton's Brainiac, which you can see below. Clearly the director is channeling sci-fi movies from the 1950s, like 'Invaders from Mars' which featured a similar alien psychic contained in a glass sphere, or 'War of the Worlds' with it's tripod walking ships.
Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.
At least Superman would have done something besides pick up heavy things.
Oh yeah when the gun is unloading on Kal El he is really picking that heavy thing up oh so often.
I dont think that is Brainiac but rather Nic Coppola without his hair or Sara Palin aa Michael Jackson in the birth chamber.
Without knowing what story exactly he had in mind I gotta say I like the way that looked. Too bad we got the story we got instead. But the real bullet we dodged was the one that was going to have Supes played by Cage be Lex's brother, we would've burned the theater down for that.
I don't really have a problem with those designs, having read the Superman Lives screenplay years ago, and knowing where it fits in. I mean, it wouldn't neccesarily turn out exactly like Burton's sketches, but was set in the same design world as the first two Batman movies. (With his planned Michael Keaton cameo.)
Also, it's amusing to see the giant spider motif.
I do like how Burton Dealt with the Giant Spider issue. But I'm very happy we didn't get Twisted Tales:Superman Lives. Because I'm sorry the "I'm so artsy look at me in awe" crap got old years ago.
Though give the requirements of the producer Burton was about the only one that could have done it, you know Burton and the Producer both being from the Street.
I thought McG's cript with Bouncey Knowless jackson as Lois Lame was where he and Lex were brothers but that was written by JJ Abrams.
Kevin Smith wrote Burton's script, did he make them brothers?
I WANT The Brainiac from the legion of doom from challenge of the superfriends cartoon.
He rocked it and his voice was the best.
Wow, we really dodged a bullet there, didn't we?
And I thought "Superman Returns" main villain, the giant Kryptonite Island that didn't kill Superman right away for some strange reason, was bad.
