We may have our first official plot concept to pass along to fans in regards to Warner Bros. Pictures' Man of Steel. With director Zack Snyder still early into the shooting process for the next Superman adventure, all we've had to report on plot details is the actors' names attached to their respective characters. Until now.

Superman Homepage is reporting that an open casting call has showed up in the Vancouver Island area for production that will be taking place from September to January 2012. Asking specifically for older extras who could double for loggers and commercial fisherman, the casting call also had the following plot concept attached to it.

Plot Concept: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

We probably won't have to wait long before Warner Bros. Pictures either confirms or denies this plot concept. Stay tuned, Maniacs. And if you are a Canadian resident and would like to be part of the casting call, click here for more information.

Man of Steel flies into theaters June 14, 2013.

Sounds like J. Michael Strazynski's Earth One book.  Which would make a pretty damn good movie, but the bad guy isn't Gen. Zod.

Intriguing take on the legend.  It certainly is a nod to the Hero-maust-have-angst-to-be-a-true hero crowd of gfilm critic and psuedo-intellectuals.

This sound similar to Superman 2 in many ways (not sure who he want's to be giving up his powers till Zod turns up bla bla bla), but don't get me wrong I'll give it a go. Think its picking up the pace by the sounds of things tho.

Can't wait. I hope Snyder does him justice and Nolan keeps his hands off.

Not a fan of the "darkened" costume. Superhero hype has the same picture but someone photoshopped the real Superman colors and I must admit, looks way better.

Amy Adams. Love her. Loved her in Enchanted and Night at the Museum. And then when I saw The Fighter, I was sold. Bring back the solid DC female lead. Please. No Holmes, Gyllenhale, Bosworth, Lively.

Sounds very much like one of you Maniacs who suggested that Zod would be used as a villain to show what Superman *could* be like if he chose to dominate rather than try and help people, was right!

OK I'm cool with this up to now but it depends how far they take all this "angst", self-reflection, brooding soul searching. We got enough of that with Smallville and the new Batman, yuck

marcd, your comment gets a thumbs up from me

Didn't we get enough angsty Superman in the last movie? Sure, he's always going to feel like an alien and set apart from the mortals in whose world he lives, but I really hope he's not brooding. That's Batman's schtick. Superman should be a beacon shining in a dark world. It sounds like the movie's going to be about Clark's journey to become Superman; to take on the responsibility of protecting his adopted planet. I'm ok with that, but I'm still not happy that they're using Zod as the vehicle for the story. Still, I have faith in Snyder with Nolan guiding the production.

From the description, it almost reads is if Krypton is still around. I hope they're not changing that part of Suprman's mythology. Being the "last son of Krypton" is one of the reasons for Clark to feel alienated and alone. If Krypton's still around why would he be sent here? Is Earth a kind of summer camp where Kal-El can learn to use his powers to be an upright citizen? I'm intrigued and a little confused by the description.

Why must we have "angst" or as I like to call them Twilight superheroes?

There is nothing wrong with a hero with a positive and hopeful outlook on life.

I recently saw Captain America and it was refreshing to watch a superhero that wasn't soul searching and filled with teen angst. Can't they do that with Superman in the new movie?

When will Hollywood realize they don't have to always appeal to the Twilight crowd?

This was the rumored storyline back when we heard David S. Goyer proposed it to director Chris Nolan so I'm pretty sure its true.

I think this idea is an excellent way to re-intro the Man of Steel. You aren't telling the origin in the same way as was done before in a movie starting with Krypton. It is much more similar to Smallville. You are seeing a young man growing up knowing he is diffferent and very powerful and not knowing where he came from or what he should do.

I've got no compliants at this time. I'm just hoping that the execution by Snyder is really, really good.

How is any of that a plot synopsis?  All it basically says is that Superman is in the movie.  That's it.  Nothing about how Zod factors in it or anything regarding the actual risks that Superman will have to take in order to save the day (not that I would want to be spoiled on those kinds of details nearly 2 years before the movie is released anyways).
