IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that Superman Returns will become the world's first live-action Hollywood feature to be converted from 2D to IMAX 3D. IMAX Corporation will use its proprietary 2D to 3D conversion technology to convert approximately 20 minutes of the film into An IMAX 3D Experience, the most immersive cinematic 3D in the world.

"Releasing select sequences of Superman Returns in IMAX 3D marks a groundbreaking moment in movies," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. "This film is going to give fans an opportunity to be immersed in a major live-action motion picture like never before."

The epic action-adventure will be transformed into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience through IMAX DMR (Digital Re-Mastering) technology. The film will be simultaneously released to IMAX(R) and conventional theatres on June 30, 2006. Warner Bros. Pictures will be the exclusive distributor of the film to the growing IMAX theatre network worldwide.

"The test scenes that have been converted into IMAX 3D look, sound and feel absolutely amazing," added Bryan Singer. "The magic of IMAX 3D will envelop audiences in this story, enabling them to feel the emotion, drama and suspense in a completely new and unique way."

During select sequences of the film, a visual cue designed by Singer will indicate when audiences should put on and remove their IMAX 3D glasses.

"Five out of the seven films in our 2006 line up now feature IMAX 3D," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "We are thrilled that moviegoers will be able to experience Bryan Singer's unique and exhilarating vision. Through the magic of IMAX 3D, they will feel as if they are actually flying alongside the man of steel, weaving in and out of Metropolis."

Thanks to William for the note.

Once again, I must stress the point that this movie scares me, even with all this HYPE about having 20 minutes of the footage converted to 3-D, I could care less, I just want to see a TRAILER that sells this movie to me, makes me Excited and most important of all, gets rid of the nagging fear and doubt I have about this movie.

YES I am going to see it, but movies do not make tons of cash by having everyone who wants to see it, see it only ONCE, they make cash by making such a great film that I go to it over and over and over again. And right now I will see it, but I feel I will only see it once in the theatre.

Obviously this and other articles about this "news" is cut a cut and paste of the press release. No insight whatsoever.

I love Superman, I have always myself being him, but sadly I am more like LEX LUTHOR than Superman right now. Many articles talk about this being the MOST anticipated film of the year, and I would normally agree, but I do not FEEL it. I do not FEEL any anticipation, just fear and dread.

Please Bryan Singer, PLEASE release that trailer soon and SELL me this movie. Just becasue it is Superman does not mean it will do well, you still have to work for our dollars, so get to work man!

I am Faster than the Speed of Light
I am More powerful than a Nuclear Explosion
I can leap Large Planets in a single bound

I am trusting Singer on this. His track record has earne dhim the benefit of the doubt as far as I am concerned. I loved the teaser, though it was purposely a bit light on the supes action. Wouldn't mind seeing a full trailer, tho.

What exactly are you afraid of Lazerman? By the way what is a Lazer? Oh and if it is a laser, how are you faster than light?

I disagree by the way. A movie makes big bucks when lots of people go and see it just once. Most people in the country only go see a movie once. The percentage of people veiwing a movie 2 or even 6 times (Jurassic Park for me, sue me, it was at the dollar theatre) is very small, and getting smaller now that DVD is here.

Oh, and on a side not, when you say your like Lex, you're not planning on destroying California, are you? Cause my uncle lives there, and I'd like to give him some warning.

Oh and you can't leap a planet, unless you just slingshot around it using its own gravity, and then really that's not too special is it.

And no one's buying this whole nuclear explosion thing.

But seriously, what is there to be afraid of? If the movie is no good, don't go see it agian, and don't buy it. Life will go on. Keep watching smallville. That movie will come out next? (kidding, or am I?)

And sorry for the long wind.

3D & IMAX won't mean nothing if the story sucks. It will be the Matrix trilogy all over.

Plus, X2 sucked.

Is there even a site that has decent photos of this film?

They don't exist.

The Matrix trilogy and the X-Men movies are awesome.

I admit, I'm starting to get a little worried about this movie too. Part of it is the way it's being promoted, the giant marketing blitz PepsiCO will be doing, and a couple things I can't place my finger on. I want this to be great and have thought it will be, but just recently I've started to feel that this may be hyped too much. It may be nothing, but we'll see.

Oh and X2 was getter than the first and the Matrix Trilogy was good too. People were expecting something different and that's why they were disappointed. Watch it without preconceived notions.

No kidding! I would have done things different too, but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the trilogy.
