Electronic Arts, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics announced this week that a video game tied to SUPERMAN RETURNS will be released along with the film on June 30th.

The game, which features storylines from both the movie and more than 60 years of comic book content, is being developed by Electronic Arts-Tiburon in Orlando, Fla., the award-winning studio that develops Madden NFL, the most popular sports franchise in videogame history. SUPERMAN RETURNS: THE VIDEOGAME will be released on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, as well as current generation platforms.

"We have assembled world class talent at EA Tiburon to deliver this blockbuster experience and we are thrilled to team up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics and have the opportunity to demonstrate our creative and technological expertise in the action/adventure category," said Steven Chiang, vice president and studio general manager, EA Tiburon. "We are creating a game that allows players to experience a real sense of flying, and master Superman's unrivaled super hero powers in order to save Metropolis. Only Superman can meet challenges of this scale."

Gerhard Florin, EA's Executive Vice President and General Manager for International Publishing continued, "Bringing SUPERMAN RETURNS to life in a game of this magnitude that mixes the comic lore with some movie elements delivers a powerful and emotional gaming experience to consumers."

"The powerful SUPERMAN RETURNS property will be rightfully brought to gamers with a strong creative vision supported by compelling new technology so they can experience The Man of Steel's superpowers firsthand," said Jason Hall, Senior Vice President for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

"EA is capturing the rich mythology of Superman and the visual excitement of our latest film to build a uniquely thrilling videogame for our fans," said Paul Levitz, DC's President & Publisher.

They build us up with these promos and the game turns out to be a total brain fart.

Wow! I sure hope there's a lot of flying through hoops in this game! Is there anything else that could make this game any sweeter?

just like the movie when it comes out - both will bomb.

It needs more than flying through hoops. If I can't fall through the ground into a vast black nothingness from whence I cannot return, the game will not be complete.

From whats been shown at x-05 the game should be very good something like Spiderman 2 or Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction.

...and we believe this, why? Superman will be a blockbuster, and I don't mean rental. Whether the film will be good or not, that's up for debate. However it will still bring in money at the box office.

A while back Warner Bros announced that they wanted to require that any games from licensed properties receive an average game review score (like B+ or 85 out of 100) above a certain level (I think 70 or higher) or else they would hold the game maker accountable through charging additional royalties.

I can't remember a good Superman game, Batman games have been more bad than good and as for The Matrix, well...

Warner has a lot of great properties that it at least seems like they are trying to take a little better care of. But if you rush a game out to tie into a movie, what can you really expect (Butcher Bay excluded)?

Be interesting to see if this is one where that applies.
