Supernatural's Jared Padalecki is in final negotiations to star in the semi-quasi remake of Friday the 13th, says the Hollywood Reporter. Bay's Platinum Dunes has Marcus Nispel directing from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.

Plot Concept:
Paramount released the original "Friday" in 1980, which focused on his mother and introduced horror icon Jason with a brief appearance at the end. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.

Friday the 13th will hit theaters fittingly on Friday, February 13, 2009.

Just let Jason die already. This series and Halloween need to be put out of their misery. Don't even think about touching Nightmare on Elm Street.

Well jppintar326, i guess you have been living under a rock for the last couple of months, because they have already stated they are remaking Nightmare on Elm Street, because they were going away from Robert England as the main charc. so hate to burst your bubble.
I think this might actually be a little good, Jared is good on Supernatural so i expect this to be good.

jppintar, if you don't like the ideas, don't spend your money on them. I agree that Hollywood has been bankrupt on fresh ideas for sometime now, BUT...

When you watch some of the originals like FT13, you can see how they wouldn't appeal to this generation, so remakes aren't an outrageous idea.

While movies like this will always hold a special place for me, since I grew up when they were coming out, I am aware of the appeal to a younger audience. The world has changed so much in the past 25-30 years, that it isn't a problem to have remakes of some movies.

Just please make it better than The Fog remake, lol, that was pretty bad. But the overall ratio of decent remakes to bad ones, is no worse than the ratio of decent new movies to bad ones.

And hey, the more exposure for Padlecki and Ackles, the better. The more they get exposure, the more episodes of Supernatural we get...I hope!

I have enjoyed most of the horror remakes except House of Wax so far. Since hollywood wants to cash in on these franchises let'em. The reason is b/c the target audience is teenagers they weren't around 20-30 yrs ago like some of us when the originals came out. So all of this is new to them and get used to it b/c hollywood isn't going to stop any time soon remaking old movies. They've been doing it for yrs now. The only difference is now it seems every other movie coming out or in development is a remake.

Yes, I was worried there for a minute. I thought there were plans to remake the weed comedy Friday, but they were going to use white boys instead of Cube & Tucker.

Hanso, you took the words right out of my motuh. I was like "Friday, really?" Is Padalecki going to play Smokey, or Ice Cube`s character? Actually, I might pay to see a remake like that. It might be funny as hell. They can get Jensen Eckles to play Ice Cubes character.

That'd be some crazy shit.

Hmmm...I wonder if talks between this actor and the new movie producers are what sparked some of the rumors of Jason appearing on Supernatural from a few months back. Off course the rumors were false...but I wonder if there is a connection?

Anyways...Jared is a good actor, so I'm happy with this.

What kind of hockey mask will he wear? Is this taking place in the 70's or early 80's so they can use the old style. or will one of Jason's victim's be a goalie he kills cause he likes the mask. If that happens bay will screw it up and make it a catchers mask since MLB had to rip off the NHL like they rip off the fans with prices for a product that does not deliver.

If Jason is the killer, it's not a remake. Jason doesn't start killing until part 2 and doesn't don the hockey mask until part 3.

I guess my gripe is that they're calling it a remake just to cash in, because a remake of the original has better marketing appeal than just calling it "Friday the 13th part 12"... or whatever number they're up to now.

I guess the bigger question is will it be a hard "R" or will the studio chicken out and continue the trend of PG-13 horror films to be able to reach a younger audience?
