Hitting strong for both the rental and sales charts was this week's debut of FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. The Surfer focused sequel soared up to 9.5 million in rental revenue alone while knocking off the previous top spot, Knocked Up. Also coming out this week was the Disney re-release of JUNGLE BOOK. For the week ending with Oct 7, it was too held the spot but it was replaced by the selling of two different sets of FF:ROSS (one version coming equipped with the original FF film). To check out our DVD guru's (Robert Trate) review of the Disney re-release, click here.

Another film debuting which had very respectable numbers is the DVD release of 1408. The adaptation of the Stephen King story landed in #4 on the DVD sales chart and #3 on the rental chart pulling in over 6.2 million in rental revenue. As far as "next gen" top rankings..Silver Surfer's debut topped the Blu-Ray market while Knocked Up remained #1 on HD-DVD.

I'm not surprised, Surfer was sweet, great FX and a lot of fun... I mean the FF movies are not the top of the comic to film foodchain, but they are fun... Everything was better in this one, especially Doom, still not the Victor I love but a lot closer. You have to hand it to Tim Story, he is trying his heart out to please the fans.

I agree with the mad maniac above; while FF2 wasn't a "Great" film, it was great fun and an easy add to my DVD collection.

I saw Knocked Up twice in the theater and three times on DVD so far and i still think it's the most I've laughed watching a movie since Porky's! If you haven't seen it, get off your ass and rent it or buy it.

Oh please. I waited to see it via Netflix this week and the film is as big a peace of crap as the first one. The nicest thing I can say about it is that the horrible Thing costume looks marginally better than the disaster it was in the first film.

There's only a few shots where the Surfer looks believable and you've seen them ALL in the trailers. The rest of the time he looks like the computer animation he is.

The film is horribly miscast all the way around and I'm still utterly mystified by the appeal of Jessica Alba who seems to be some sort of pedo-sex-symbol no matter how old she gets. The weird guy who plays Richard Reed just doesn't do it for me, nor does the unlikable idiot playing Torch. I've loathed Chiklis just from having to watch commercials for the insipid "Commish" and can't think of a worst guy to play Grim.

While I was working the other day I put the film on one more time and listened to director Story's commentary with all of his whining about how he had to cut all the terrific stuff he had planned that I'm amazed they even bothered to make this mess.

M-my powerful empathic Betazoid instincts sense great anger and frustration on this page. I-I have such an overwhelming feeling that ElvisGump didn't like FF:ROSS. No, wait...yes, I'm sure!
CU MONKEYFOOT'S FACE. His lip quivers and tears start to well up in his eyes. :-)
My feelings match madmanic's. It's no comic book classic but great fun. I still haven't gotten around to seeing Knocked Up but I will eventually.

FF2 was awesome. If you disagree you are utterly WRONG! (tounge in cheek)
Seriously though, I loved it. The first one was fun, this one was funner (is that a word?...who cares)
The FF comics were NEVER anything great in comic literature. They had a random good issue here and there. But these movies capture all that is good about the FF. Family dynamic (quarreling, making up, obnoxious siblings and such), adventure, action. Chicklis is phenomonal as the Thing. Especially considering he's acting under a ton of bricks. ( I love that the Thing is not CG).
One question Elvis, what do you mean by "I'm still utterly mystified by the appeal of Jessica Alba who seems to be some sort of psuedo-sex-symbol no matter how old she gets." What the F does "no matter how old she gets" mean?
I can understand if you don't think she's appealing (HOWEVER I THINK SHES HOT AS BALLS!, she just looks like she had a bad hair job STILL HOT AS BALLS)
What I don't understand about the comment is "No matter how old she gets" SHE'S 26!!?? Thats not old.
I notice on this site there are so many posters who complain about the age of all the hags and has been actresses. ( Check out any thread about the upcoming Wonder Woman movie to find out what I'm talking about) SO many virgin geeks out there on this site who post that the actress to play a certain role needs to be younger than 28 or 30. Whats with you guys. Are you hot for little girls? NOT ACCUSING merely asking. HOW IS A 26 year old POA considered old? (which is what you seem to imply Elvis)

If you ask me, and no one did but here it comes... All of you who complain about actresses ages and clamor for 18 - 22 year old actresses only in these roles, you all need to get up turn off your computers and your TV's and start forming your own opinions. Don't let the media machine that gives you boners for little girls like Hanna Montanna, Hilary Duff, or whatever Disney channel girl is being all painted up to be the next hot thing. Okay I'm done. my point is 26 years old is not too old to be MORE than appealing. (and neither is 30-35, hell theres some pretty hot 40-50 year olds out there)
There thats my tangent for the day.

I have FF:ROSS and it was good..it's not supposed to be anything more than what it is....if I want deep meaning in a superhero, there's always Batman Begins, soon to be followed by The Dark Knight...

As far someone above the age of 30 that's hot.... and can be an actress? 2 words

Michelle Phiffer

okay, a few more...Her as Catwoman in Batman Returns....

Silver Surfer was not bad, as others have said it is not greatness, I mean let's face it, this movie could have been way better, but it was still worth seeing in the theater and I will probabl buy it when it is ten bucks, but it was not bad and if they make a third one I will go see it. I think Tim Story really is trying to make a good comic movie and he keeps getting closer. If they continue with a third I think it will be better as well. Honestly though I don't know why people complain about this movie it was better than the first movie and as we all know with very few exceptions sequels usually are not as good as the original. So now we have a series that gets better each time, so really we have nothing to lose if Story makes one more FF and finally knocks it out of the park.

I'm surprised so many liked Fantastic Four 2. I thought it was utterly horrible. I left after about twenty minutes, not being able to take another minute of vomit inducing dialogue and a plot devices I've seen in bad movies of the week. And while Jessica Alba is most definitely hot, and I think a capable actress, it was very difficult to watch her as a scientist with a very bad dye job.

Speaking of Jessica Alba, why are people talking like she's north of 30. She's 26 for god's sakes.

redhairs99 • Oct 11, 2007, 06:51pm •
I'm not totally sure it's the bad dye job in this film that makes Jessica Alba (unbelievably not hot), it's the color contacts she wears in the film that makes her less appealing, at least in my eyes.

Other than that, I do agree FF2 is better than the first film and pretty watchable, butwhen you compare it to the first film that's not really saying much.

ElvisGump • Oct 11, 2007, 08:47pm •
I stand by my opinion that this film was a total turd.

And Alba seems to be made up to look like she's eternally 14 and can't act for shit. I don't get the appeal she seems to hold.

And Andre Braugher ought to be ashamed to have fallen so far as to be in this film getting punked by that weird Nip Tuck dude.

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Has George Lucas and Michael Bay totally lowered your standards for what constitutes a good movie???
