Nine volumes in, is it enough to officially label Suzuka as a bitch or does she still deserve a chance?

What They Say
The Kiss.

Yamato finally gets up the nerve to tell Suzuka how he feels, but she just can't seem to get over Kazuki, a track star who bore a striking resemblance to Yamato. Kazuki died before Suzuka could confess her love. Now Suzuka, nursing a broken heart, is afraid to love again. A sudden kiss from Yamato complicated matters. Could Suzuka finally be able to move on?

The Review!
Yamato, so young, so naïve.  As men, we all do stupid things for the women we like, or think we love.  However, with that said, we eventually learn to put up with less crap and attitude as we get older because we realize there are plenty of fish in the sea, as it were.  Unfortunately, Yamato has a long way to go before learning that lesson and my patience for Suzuka’s crap is wasting away.

Yamato finally pushes Suzuka hard enough that she agrees to date him.  Yaay, now everything should be cool.  Not so, Suzuka still lashes out at Yamato for every sleight.  Sure, leaving your girlfriend sitting at a train station for three hours because you didn’t see her text message is a crappy thing to do and deserving of a tongue-lashing, but she overacts for other things.

Fortunately, there are other things going on with other characters in this volume.  Honoka is showing the most character growth.  Her model friend asks her if she would like to do more modeling work.  Before, Honoka always said no because she was embarrassed and her spare time was used up managing Yamato’s track team.  She admits that she still loves Yamato, but knows she needs to do things for herself and modeling might be her thing.  The track team is pissed about it and Yamato thinks he’s so important that he caused Honoka to quit, but she lets him down easy.

I wish the author would spend more time exploring the side characters in this series.  I believe there is a wealth of potential there.  We know next to nothing about his aunt and cousin, and surely Suzuka could spend time hanging out with girlfriends, or Miki at the very least.  Luckily, the last chapter returns to some of the comedy seen in early volumes with a panty thief story.  Yes, this theme has been done to death, but it takes away from all the teenager angst and involves the side characters.  I hope to see more of this in the future.
