The Symphonic Jean Michel Jarre

Not strictly film music, but a notable release from a film music label is Tadlow Music's The Symphonic Jean Michel Jarre. The album features two discs of the composer/synthesist's most famous works, recorded digitally and performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Crouch End Festival Chorus. Under the baton of Nic Raine, the orchestra work wonders with Jarre's compositions, revealing just how suited they are to the symphonic palette. Classic pieces such as the mystical "Oxygene 4," the infectious "Magnetic Fields 5 The Last Rhumba," the kaleidoscopic "Chronologie 1-3" and the premiere studio recording of "Acropolis" (one of the composer's newest pieces), make this a fascinating and highly enjoyable album.

Jarre is of course the son of film music legend Maurice Jarre and has himself applied his musical talent to film over the years, most notably in the 1970s with films like THE HAMBURG SYNDROME and LES GRANGES BRULÉES.

'The Symphonic Jean Michel Jarre' is released on October 2nd by Silva Classics. Also scheduled is a limited special edition that includes a DVD-audio with the entire program in 5.1 surround sound.
