THE TAILSMAN scoop

By Karl Schneider     August 24, 2006

Scooper Squirrel wrote me today regarding the upcoming DreamWorks movie THE TAILSMAN.

Squirrel wrote, "Michael J. Fox - who was in here recently to meet on a new "Atlantis" project - might be returning to acting. One of the bosses here said he's up for a role in a film called "Talisman", about a man trying to save his mother from a Talisman.

"Steven Spielberg, who he did BTTF with, is apparently involved with it - in some capacity. I have no idea - either do they - whether he's going to be playing the main role, or just a role, it was something he apparently mentioned in a meeting....in conversation... and nothing more was said of it."

"Never heard of the film, so I don't know whether he's good for it or not, and I don't even think it's happening here at Disney, but thought this would interest."

THE TAILSMAN follows young Jack Sawyer who enters a parallel world known as the Territories in search of a powerful tailsman in order to save his mother from certain death.

The film is based on a Stephen King novel of the same name and will be produced by DreamWorks.

Thanks for the heads up.

The Talisman was co-authored by Stephen King AND Peter Straub. A wonderful story.

Not only does squirrel write badly, but even the title of the article is misspelled (Should be Talisman). Sawyer goes looking for the Talisman to save his mother. This is also one of King's peripheral Dark Tower books and pretty good in it's own right. Wasn't Robert Rodriguez(sp?) attached to this at one point?

The book was awesome! But Jack is 12 years old. It doesn't say if Michael is up for the lead or not... but it would take on a very different flavor if Jack is a man rather than a boy.

Is Tailsman the sequel to The Assman Cometh?

The Talisman (written by Stephen King and Peter Straub) is a remarkably story involving a 12 year old that can "flip" (learns it from an old black dude...GET MORGAN FREEMAN or Denzel) between two realities. Has to travel from the east coast to the west coast and then back to the east coast to get a talisman that will save his mother's life. I could see Fox as the bad guy or as Wolf but not as Jack Sawyer. It HAS to be a 12 year old otherwise they can't do Black House (even darker and intense story)!

The Gunslinger was published in 1978 and then 1982. Talisman was published in 1984.

You know, I just did some reading up on the LOST-Dark Tower connection, that would be pretty badass to see a tie-in. It would also start to explain the now past the point of "magical" coincidence that the show has built it's success on. They should have Gary Sinise walk on as Stu Redman.

MJF should put in a turn as the Crimson King.
