2k Games has purchased the rights to publish Ghost Rider, a new third person video game based on Marvel's classic comic. The game's release will coincide with the big-screen adaption of Ghost Rider in February 2007.

The rights to Ghost Rider were purchased, along with the rights to make The Darkenss, for a sum of $8 million. Majesco had originally announced the sale late in 2005 to a then unnamed publisher.

The Ghost Rider feature film follows Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcyclist who gives up his soul to become a fiery vigilante and fight the son of the devil. Toasty. The movie will star Nicolas Cage and the stunning Eva Mendes (Hitch).

"2K Games is creating an innovative game that showcases a combination of amazing hand-to-hand combat and motorcycle action intertwined with compelling third person play that offer gamers a truly unique and diverse game play experience," said Ames Kirshen, the Vice President of Marvel Entertainment.

Hold up, I thought the movie was coming out later THIS year. I know it was put on the shelf for 8 months last year (always a great sign of 'quality') but now it's coming out next year?

The film must be f***ing awful.

Post #1. I don't think it's been put on the shelf because it's a crappy movie; it's just taking that long for the effects to be completed. I read an article about the film that said the fire effects take so long to do, and they aren't being rushed because if the effects of the flaming skull and bike are cheesy, the movie will sink fast. marvel wants this movie done the right way.

To clarify: The movie was originally scheduled for August of this year. They then moved it to July of this year. Just recently they pulled it again and pushed it to February of next year.

It won't stay at February, it will likely get pushed back to Late April or a summertime release. Time will tell, but it deffinatly WONT be released in February. February is a dumping ground for studio's and Marvel won't be dumping such a high budget movie.

February is not a dumping ground. Look at Daredevil, that came out in february and did very well. February is where the movies that may not make it against the big summer blockbusters but are good enough to make 100-150 mill. There are plenty of successful Feb releases.

Like WesSmith said, they are taking their time getting the fire effects correct. They didn't want to rush it to make a preset release date and deliver a lesser quality film. So they decided to push the date back and give the films effects the time needed to get it right.

Originally they wanted to open it this summer. I didn't hear August but October to tie with Halloween but yeah its ultimate resting spot now is Feb.'07
I do hope it gets pushed up to late April or even May cause I think the movie will be worthy of summer, its orginal destination. I saw raw, non-effects, footage at San Diego Comic-con '06 and just the costumes, acting, cast, mood etc of what I saw was impressive.

I don't know how much sway Marvel has in deciding the release since this is a FOX picture. Remember though that Daredevil, another Mark Steven Johnson directed flick, opened Feb and did $100million and was a modest success.

Ghost Rider could be a good comic prelude to Spidey 3 for summer of 07.

Regarding Feb:

Daredevil barely crossed 100m. Constantine barely crossed 75m. If the studio has higher hopes for this movie than 85-90m, they will move it.
