When word came out that Uma Thurman had become pregnant, there were rumblings that suggested that Quentin Tarantino might have to recast his female lead for his upcoming KILL BILL.
While talking to Variety columnist Michael Fleming, Tarantino revealed that he'll wait for Uma. He explained his choice to delay his first film since JACKIE BROWN, saying, "I finally had to ask myself, 'What would Joseph Von Sternberg do?' Why, he would wait for Marlene Dietrich, and film history would thank him! So I'm going to wait for Uma, she is my actress."
Tarantino adds that Thurman has been personally involved in the development of the film. He explains, saying, "We came up with her character, the Bride, in what is a revenge movie where she tracks down the men who wronged her, and kills them one by one."
As a result, preproduction of KILL BILL will now start in after January with an expected production start date of May or June 2002.
Meanwhile, Tarantino will shift his creative focus over to his script INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, a World War II action film. The director-writer describes the film as being "my guys-on-a-mission movie, that is a little bit WHERE EAGLES DARE and THE DIRTY DOZEN, where they're fighting Nazis."
