Yeah, I can kinda see the 4 in the plate. Oh wait... I get it. There are four tines in the fork. Very clever.

I think they should've used an IV bag... since they use Roman numerals... but maybe that would've been a stretch.

The objects on the plate look like XI. Maybe Jeff goes into the future and Saw IV is also Saw XI, like Space Quest IV.

I haven't seen any of the entries in this franchise, but the writeups here have intrigued me somewhat. I'm not a big horror fan, but if the film is well written and has a good psychological hook, I'm willing to give it a look.
So the Saw series features a madman who selects specific victims, people who have lost a lust for life, and encourages them to change their ways via terror. That's the upshot I'm getting.
I wonder if the gross-out element overwhelms the writing. If so, I'll probably continue to pass. But I might rent the first one, if there's some meat on these bones...

Do you happen to notice the over all surgical theme in the poster. Hhhhhmmmm, I wonder.

Captmathman- I'm not sure what you do or don't like, so I can't tell you to skip this on the off chance you might really enjoy it. But as it stands, every Saw is poorly written, edited and acted. And almost always rely on a "twist" of some kind at the end, but one that can be spotted a mile away or, sad to say, is just plain stupid.

The first Saw was pretty good--nothing earth shattering, but I enjoyed it. After that, there just wasn't any point. But that's just one guy's opinion. People seem to eat these "horror" films up.

As for the gross-out element, I've never found it to really be all that prevelant; so no worries there. If you're gonna see any of 'em, go witht he first one. There's some meat on the bones (not much, but meat none-the-less). As for the rest, well, I'd say skip 'em. But that's just me.

Captmathman - I'd also recommend the first of the Saw movies as the best. Keep in mind the first movie was a low budget ($1.2M) independent horror movie which was originally slated for a direct-to-DVD release. I thought it was a very well-done low-budget horror movie, and unlike rudewordsmith above, the final twist came as a complete surprise to me (and most of the theater's audience, given the reaction I heard).

I didn't care much for the sequels - the twists seemed more and more contrived, and the plots were there to serve the increasingly gruesome set pieces.

Don't pass on Saw III Captmathman. Not the element of suprise like the first one, but as far as story and acting goes, just as good.

these movies go up in money but down in quality every time one is released ... i think it is time to kill the franchise. but i will have to see it for 2 reasons

1) scott patterson kicks ass
2) i am dating a horror nut

I reckon I'll bump Saw I up on my queue and see what I think; thanks for the advice!
I'll report back on the next Saw IV update...
