Imagi and Warner Brothers Pictures have announced a new computer animated TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES film. Warner Brothers, who is handling domestic distribution, will release the film on March 30, 2007.

Studio and TWC said the new PG-rated film will be slightly grittier than the three live-action "Turtles" movies released by New Line more than a decade ago. Combined, those three pics grossed more than $256
million at the U.S. box office.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles represents a brand that is widely recognized all around the world, and we think this new CG version will be a huge hit among audiences everywhere," said TWC co-chair Harvey Weinstein, who made the announcement with Warner Bros. Pictures prexy of distribution Dan Fellman.

The movie's website is at: http://www.imagi.com.hk/movie/web/tmntm.htm

Thanks to Xanath for the heads up.

Very cool. I loved the original 1990 Turtles movie, but didn't care for either of the sequels. Especially II. III wasn't too bad, but far from great. At least III brought Elias Koteas's Casey Back. He was sorely missed in II. Either way, it sounds like we might finally see a Turtles movie that isn't watered down.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes about. However, the poster looks rather odd. Something about Leo's head there just doesn't settle with me very well. However, I'm gonna wait until we see some trailers and hardcore footage before making any speculations.

I've always liked the Ninja Turtles. Comics, cartoon (old and new), and movies. So, this will be a real treat. Does anyone remember how they paid homage to Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in the first movie?

Chief Sterns: Alright, I want some answers. Now what in God's name happened out here tonight?!

(silence)

Chief Sterns: Somebody better talk to me.

Foot Clan recruit: Check out the East warehouse over on Lairdman Island. You'll get your answers there.

It better be a lot more than "slightly grittier". The original comic was in another solar system in terms of grit. The movies (and the cartoon) took elements of the source material and twisted it into a kiddie-friendly product to be consumed.

What was once an off-beat, B&W, indie comic turned into a mass-produced, technicolour abomination. And Laird & Eastman took the money to the bank... not that I blame them!

I remember it was announced awhile back that there was supposed to be a live action adaptation (turtles done in CGI) of this movie and it was supposed to be filmed by John Woo or Ang Lee (I can't remember which one).

They're no GERIATRIC GANGRENE JUJITSU GERBILS, but they're almost as fun. And if you think I'm making up that comic book, you're wrong.

If this is all CG and no live action at all, then I'll probably have to pass. Especially if it's to gritty for the kids.

Then you must have hated Shreck and Shreck 2's thinly veiled sexual references. And the Incredibles violence, and it also had it's share of thinly veiled sexual references.

Wow... they might actually do the Turtles justice.

It's about time they came up with a slightly grittier Ninja Turtles project. I've been waiting years for something like this to come out. Hope they don't completely screw it up.
