A few days after enterting negotiations for a role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, actress Juno Temple has been officially locked in as a "street-smart Gotham girl." Her name was in the trades last week when Joseph Gordon-Levitt was jumping on board the fast-tracking production.

The two join Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy. Christopher Nolan is returning to wrap up his Batman trilogy, based on a screenplay by his brother Jonathan Nolan and returning franchise writer David Goyer.

The Dark Knight Rises will strike theaters July 20, 2012.

Feel free to speculate on Temple's role below.

Perhaps the next series of Batman movies will be a little closer to the comics, but far away from the original four movies. I am getting rather burnt out on Nolan's realistic stuff.

Looking at the pic you have, I'd say Harley Quinn.

This reminds me of when Mageina Tovah was announced to be cast in Spider-Man 2.  Was she to play Gwen Stacy?  No, she was going to be the Black Cat!  She wound up being the mousy girl across the hall who bakes Peter some cookies.

Moral of the story?  Don't read too much into vague casting announcments.  Most of them don't mean anything of consequence.

I would agree with that lusiphur.  Even though Nolan has confirmed he will not have a Joker in the third installment, they do need to address him in some way.  Would be kind of tough to just throw Harley in at the deep end saying she was there all along.  Maybe she is portrayed as a female copycat of the Joker.

Hah, Lusipher...I figured that photo would fuel some speculation on that one. There was another one where she's blond from her performance in Year One that would have comments going towards another character. You never know Nolan though...she could just end up being a "street-smart Gotham" girl. But it's always fun to form theories when the Joker is unfortunately out of the picture.

will Scarecrow return?

I think Nolan is just goin with what the description states. I dont think we are going to see a Harley Quinn without her "Mr. J" or even Stephanie Brown/Spoiler...... Everyone thought Anthony Michael Hall was the riddler when he was announced as a TV reporter. And lets have another Scarecrow cameo!

Good job Jarrod. I do so love casting rumors.

But who's the other character?

Lsn22s 3/25/2011 9:04:41 AM

O man...Dark Knight Rises can't get here soon enough...makes me sad it's gonna be the last one with Nolan and Bale....here's hoping after it's all said and done, they(meaning WB and DC) revist the franchise later with a new director and do "the Dark Knight Returns" storyline...Batman returns to Gotham overrun with super-powered baddies, would be the perfect opportunity to transition from one trilogy to another, with a perfect reason to cast a new Batman who's a bit older and then they could start using all the sci-fi villains that don't fit into the current "Nolan-verse" with no harm done....fanboys can dream right?

From the picture, I think it's safe to assume that she's taking over the role of The Scarecrow from Cillian Murphy...
