When fans watch The Sorcerer's Apprentice (in theaters July 14) they'll see actress Teresa Palmer ducking dragons and battling wizards as Becky, the scrappy girlfriend to the the title character. But any action that we see in that movie will pale by comparison to what Palmer is going to have to pull off in the currently-filming science fiction action movie I Am Number Four.
Palmer talked exclusively with Mania.com about gearing up to play Number Six, one of nine aliens sent to Earth to save humanity from an enemy species.
"She's pretty intense. She can be sassy but she's really just like wants to attend to business and kill these aliens," Palmer said of her next character. "I'm the chick in the film, but I'm also the most badass out of everyone. No one wants to mess with me. I'm the most intimidating character out of the lot. She's like an Angelina Jolie character."
Palmer told us she's spent the last two months training for the role. Number Six is a martial arts and weapons expert who rides a Ductai motor cycle.
"Peng Zhang is the stunt coordinator. He did Kick-Ass and he did Scott Pilgrim vs The World," Palmer told us. "I'm working for a few hours every day to learn all the different moves and doing the choreography with the enemy alien who I'm going to be fighting in the movie."
The fight choreography is just the beginning of her regimen which also includes training with guns, swords, as well as wire work. And, of course, she has to master that Ducati.
"I dropped it the other day. I broke the brake on the handlebar, so that wasn't great," Palmer said laughing.
Although she's been in some summer tent poles and was even cast to play Talia Al Ghul in the ill-fated Justice League movie, Palmer said that landing the role of an ass-kicking super heroine was a surprise.
"That's so exciting for me. I never thought that anyone would ever want to cast me in that role," she said.
Of course, if fans spark to the movie when it arrives in theaters, all that training will be put to good use.
"Their plan is to do six movies, so we would love for it to turn into a franchise and I would love to see where Number Six goes."
Directed by D.J. Caruso, I Am Number Four stars Alex Pettyfer in the title role. It arrives in theaters February 2011.
Teresa Palmer next appears in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, in theaters July 14.
