Scoop Feedback:

April 23, 2002... Our first eyewitness report!

"Well, what a shock the other night when I couldn't drive up to the store in a straight shot because the stretch of street was blocked off to film something, and it was BIG. Four story high cranes with stadium lights hanging over like dinosaurs. Buzz was that Arnold was flying by helicopter any mintue to film a scene on this inconspicuous corner in this inconspicuous town named Tjuanga, fifteen minutes from Glendale (CA). The erected set is this grimy veternarian hospital and rental (?) place, and will be torn down soon before anyone can get descent pics. Or blown up. So, there's a vet
hospital and an explosion. Oh, and Arnold.
" [Sent in by the lucky Iris.]

April 25, 2002... Ain't It Cool News scored the first real good look at Arnold in T3, all decked out in his black leather gear. [First appeared at AICN.]

Latino Review had a spy hanging around the L.A. street set and
got some shots of the action on hand. While not as clear as the photo that appeared on AICN (the Latino Review photographer was chased away from the set), there is also a report describing the action going down. [First appeared at

April 29, 2002... Hey, we didn't know the Aussies had their own version of 60 Minutes!

"60 Minutes in Australia just had an interview with Arnold. I was hoping he would spill some new infromation about Terminator 3 but apart from saying his kids have been hasseling him for small cameo roles in the movie, he did not tell us anything knew.

"He did however say the famous line 'I'll Be Back', and let me tell you, I got a chill down my back. He may not look as young as he once did, but he sure sounds it. I cant wait for T3.

"As for looks, he does look older. His face looks better then its looked in the past so I think he had some work done. He looked fine sitting down and talking, but when he got up and was standing somewhere talking with the interviewer, his neck was visibly wrinkled and you could tell he was becoming an old man. I still however have faith that he will deliver a great performance in Terminator 3.

"I was just thinking that perhaps the photo of Arnie from T3 which was recently released had Arnie wearing a leather jacket with a 'popped' collar to hide his neck.

May 3, 2002... A reader sends word of a radio interview with actor Michael Biehn on the Tafelberg, Capetown radio station CCFM. Biehn was promoting his latest film, Clockstoppers, and asked him what he thought of the new Terminator picture now shooting in L.A. Biehn's reply was a surprise to all Terminator fans.

Cutting himself short and carefully watching what he said, the actor revealed that he will appear in a cameo in T3! He's supposed to return to America and film his part in the near future. The announcer laughed and asked how Biehn could reprise his role of Kyle Reese since the character died in the first Terminator. "Biehn replied 'You go away, you think about it...and you'll realize there's a place for Kyle Reese in this movie. As minute as it will be'," our scooper told us.

[Big thanks to Khali for sending this one our way!]

May 6, 2002... Today's Variety reports actress Claire Danes has replaced Sophia Bush in the lead female role in T3.
Director Jonathan Mostow told the magazine "This was a difficult decision because Sophia is a talented and charismatic performer. However, we feel, after reviewing the dailies, that her appearance and manner play younger than what we wanted for the role. We look forward to working with Sophia on future projects." Danes took over the role last week after nearly four weeks of filming had been completed on T3. [Scoops sent in by Ulf @ Arnold Movies.com and Brian Freeman; originally appeared in Variety.]

May 13, 2002... Latino Review has a new set of machette.html" target="_blank">spy photos taken at the T3 set. There's not a cyborg to be seen, but there are lots of crew trucks. [Thanks to Kellvin for the briefing.]

May 15, 2002... A surprise set visit was held for the online film community, which has resulted in a number of set reports being filed by movie websites.
CHUD
has theirs and so does Coming Soon, Dark Horizons and Countingdown.

May 16, 2002... Warner Bros. has launched the teaser portion of the "_blank">Official Terminator 3 website. Users can now register to receive future emails alerting when the site gets updated. [Source: Warner Bros.]

June 3, 2002... Britain's News of the World debuted some new and exciting pictures snapped on the set of Terminator 3 showing Schwarzenegger's character in action in a location we haven't seen before in the franchise. A word of caution though: the photos do reveal what happened to a familiar Terminator character in-between T2 and T3. Still interested?
Walk this way. [Thanks to Mike Pitt.]

June 6, 2002... The Austrian magazine Der Standard reports that the makers of a well-known Austrian sweet treat have paid for a product placement scene in T3. According to the magazine (and by way of a translation from our scooper), in a scene where the T-800 walks into a 7-11 convenience store, the cyborg grabs a piece of bacon and Manner crisps, then leaves without paying for the food. The clerk is furious but makes no move to stop the Terminator (good idea.) Manner treats are pink chocolate crisps sold in Austria.

[Wolfgang J. Hofer provided the translation; first appeared in Der Standard.]

June 13, 2002... It's news to Michael Biehn about his supposed cameo in T3. Speaking to the president of the Official Michael Biehn Fan Club, the actor said he's not appearing in the second Terminator sequel. 'No, I am NOT in a cameo in T3. I am in no way involved," said the actor. When the president of his fan club said she thought T3 wouldn't be that great anyway, Biehn replied "It's not Jim Cameron, period. And you can quote me on that!" [First appeared online @ the Official Michael Biehn Fan Club; reported by allbiehn.com.]

June 23, 2002... One of our high-level sources has informed CA that the teaser trailer for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines will ship with all prints of Columbia Pictures' Men in Black 2. Details about what material will be seen in the T3 teaser or its running time are presently unknown.

We have also been told that the T3 teaser will be placed online by Warner Bros. the day before MIB 2 opens or the morning of the film's release, July 3.

[They're never wrong.]

Afternoon, July 1, 2002... That same high-level source returned to tell us the running time of the T3 teaser trailer:
one minute, ten seconds of cyborg lovin' fun! [Really, they're shhh.]

Late evening, July 1, 2002... We have now received three reports from readers who claim to have seen the teaser trailer for T3 -- and it's definitely a tease alright.

"Description of the trailer: Terminator theme plays throughout the trailer. We see the WB logo melting into a pool of liquid metal. Gradually a giant letter T emmerges. Laser blasts carve number 3 into its side. Title card: 'Terminator 3: Rise Of Machines. July 4, 2003'." [G.K. got to us first.]

"In what may be one of the biggest teases of all time, all that's contained in the Terminator 3 teaser trailer is the Warner Bros. logo is shown, it melts away, and then the Terminator cyborg is then 'built up'. Just thought that might be of interest to you." [Sighting filed by Rob Harris.]

"The T3 teaser is very much a teaser (ie. no actual footage). Basically just liquid metal dripping on a dark background. The liquid puddles up and slowly rises up into a three-dimensional 'T' shape. Then a 3 is cut into the 'T' shape as if cut by a lasar. 'Rise of the Machines' appears at the bottom of the screen." [And that's a wrap from 'bartleby'.]

July 3, 2002... It's finally here. Download the teaser trailer for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines by clicking here! [First to get it to us: Robert Rodriguez.]

July 24, 2002... Countingdown is the first online outlet to show an image of the Terminatrix on the Internet. The photo originaally came from a German movie magazines titled Planet Movie and shows Kristanna Loken standing around in a Terminator-like stance. [Thanks to 'Scooby' for the alert; first appeared online at Countingdown.]

July 25, 2002... Latino Review has scanned in the complete three-page article from Planet Movie, providing us with
more views of Arnold's T-800 cyborg, filming at the cemetary set and the first look at Nick Stahl as John Connor. [It came from Latino Review.]

Meanwhile, The Arnold Fans website has published 18 photos taken from an L.A. street of the production. The snaps are of the production prepping for filming an upcoming action scene. [Scooped by René de Jong, first appeared at The Arnold Fans.]

August 5, 2002... Last weekend at the Warner Bros. presentation held at the San Diego Comic Convention, T3 director Jonathan Mostow and star Arnold Schwarzenegger showed up, wowing fans with a clip from their upcoming movie. On-hand was one of our reader who filed this report of what he saw...

"I just got back from Comic-Con in San Diego...Warner Bros. had a little presentation of the first footage of Terminator 3. It was generally vague, with shots mainly of John Connor, the shot of the T-800 stepping out of the large truck, the T-800 with a coffin on his shoulders shooting up whoever was shooting back at him, and other shots of explosions and whatnot. Overall, it was just another bunch of teaser clips. Jonathan Mostow and (surprise guest) Arnold were on hand to answer general PR questions. The only item of interest came about when a fan asked about the relationship between Connor and Kyle Reese, and Mostow responded 'I can't say anything without revealing
some of the movie.' This seems to insinuate that Reese plays some part in this next movie...
"

['spoernerd'.]
If you wish you could have been there, Brian from Lights Out Entertainment has the next best thing for you: he filmed video of Schwarezenegger introducing the T3 footage and later on talking about the sequel!
Watch it right here
! [Thanks Brian!]

August 14, 2002... The men from CHUD have an exclusive interview with T3 director Jonathan Mostow and star Arnold Schwarzenegger. While the two Hollywood men were careful not to reveal any potential plot points during their Q&A, they did talk about how far along they were in the production and why the enthusiastic reponse at Comic Con was a good omen.

'When I realized what story this could be, I got excited by that and then I got all focused and I just tuned out the whole daunting aspect, filling Jim Cameron's shoes, all that kind of stuff," director Mostow told CHUD's Smilin Jack Ruby. "Then, at some point before we started, suddenly I thought, oh, my God! I'm making this huge, huge movie that's known all over the world, it's got all this pressure on it, but then the first day we started shooting, this wonderful feeling came over me. I realized, you know what's different about this movie? Every other thing I've ever done, you make it and you sit there going, God, I'm putting all this effort into it, but is anybody going to go see this? And there's just something wonderfully calming about the fact that we're making this movie and, for better or worse hopefully for better everybody's going to go see this movie. Even the guy out there who is saying, 'you're going to ruin the picture,' he'll still go see it! As a filmmaker, that's a great feeling just to know that the audience is there, so that aspect of it is very calming and it takes away a lot of the anxiety and neuroticism that usually surrounds the process of making a movie."

August 16, 2002... The guys over at The Arnold Fans interviewed actress Alana Curry about her role in T3. Curry plays the girlfriend of actor Brian Sites (who plays a character named John Anderson), and her scenes take place at a party where the Terminatrix shows up and causes some mayhem.

fans about her role and what to expect when Terminator 3 blasts into theaters next summer. [Scoop sent in by Ulf.]

September 10, 2002... The San Bernadino County Sun published a very interesting article last week concerning some location filming that the T3 production was undertaking at the San Bernardino International Airport. Thanks to an alert handed to us by RossBond (whose T3 Nexus website was first to report the news), we've learned about what kind of new Terminators we'll see in the movie! A
SPOILER warning is in effect!

According to the County Sun, "Five ten-foot high robots carrying Gatling-gun like automatic weapons were on the scene. There was helicopter wreckage and urban assault vehicles, primarily jeeps and Hummers. And there were 'bodies' litering the airport's tarmac." The bodies were, of course, lifelike mannequins -- but the robots are something entirely new for the Terminator universe.

The airport's executive director, T. Milford Harrison, described the robots. "They were like transformer toys. They would start out about 5 feet tall and grow to maybe 10 feet."

So what the hell are they? A new kind of Terminator or something else? And did they come from the future as has been the case with every other Terminator that we've seen so far or were they made in our time? Remember those earlier reports by Stan Winston who said there would be other machines seen in T3? It appears we now know of at least one model of them! [Our thanks to 'RossBond' for first bringing this to our attention!]

September 12, 2002... Just before Terminator 3 wrapped principal photography at the end of last week, a number of online publications were invited to the Los Angeles set of the film to interview stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kristanna Loken and special effects supervisor Pablo Helman. These reports are appearing online today.

While the interviews seem to have been held for group participation and not individually, each site also received an exclusive image from T3 showing a never-before-seen scene from the movie. The reports can be found at:

More Terminator 3 stills are expected to be released by these websites as well as others in the next few days.

September 26, 2002... The Arnold Fans has an interview with T3 co-star Nick Stahl about his role as John Connor. In the interview Stahl talks about where John Connor imagines himself ten years after the events of Terminator 2 and as the supposed savior of mankind from the machines and how he approached playing a character which had already been earlier established by another actor.

Get the Connor exclusive by reading TAF's interview! [Thanks to René de Jong.]

November 5, 2002... A review of an early draft of the T3 script has appeared at TMNC. This early form of the story still includes story elements which have since been discarded, such as having Sarah Connor as one of the lead characters plus a different form of the new female Terminator adversary. Nevertheless, a heavy SPOILER warning is being advised due to the possibility that some of the story elements in this early T3 draft may still be included in the shooting draft.

The review is highly negative of the script in question. You can read it here at TNMC. [Sent in by John Shea.]

The official T3 website has changed its look. A login screen, registration section and countdown clock ticking down the moments until the movie's release are now there. [Scooped by Ricardo Lawdiny.]

November 9, 2002... While the official site hasn't opened its main entrance doors, those signed up for the T3 newsletter have been invited to take a look at what's behind the curtain. If you hit www.terminator3.com/main you'll be ushered into the working portion of the movie website where you can download wallpaper images, see new stills from the movie and read more about
the film's cast and crew. That's where we grabbed this image of what a T-1 model Terminator looks like, and we can see the family resemblance to the Hunter-Killer units seen in the dark future flashback sequences in the movie franchise. [Scoop sent in by Patrick H.]

November 26, 2002... One of our best sources wrote in to tell us that the first full-length trailer for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines will start being screened in movie theaters starting December 18. "In industry terms it'll be 'loose in the can' so while odds are very good it'll be on most prints of the film it isn't guaranteed," wrote our fellow.

December 18 will also see the first appearance of T3 promotional banners in the theater lobby. Two designs have been created, one featuring the new Terminator 800 model (that'd be Arnie's character) and the T-X. The banner designs are similar in nature to the ones used for WB's promotion of Ecks vs. Sever.

[This guy's better than a hunter-killer.]

December 4, 2002... Credit Music From the Movies for breaking the news that original Terminator and T2 musical composer Brad Fiedel will not be returning to score the third Terminator film; instead, composer Marco Beltrami (composer of the Scream trilogy) will be scoring T3. In a surprise move, Music From the Movies also reports that their source claims that Beltrami will not use any of Fiedel's material from the first two movies when he scores T3; instead, the site claims Beltrami will "try all my own material." [Scored by Music From the Movies.]

Over at the official movie website the first theatrical banner for the film has been unveiled. It's an image of the classic Terminator model on the left and the female T-X model on the right, with each cyborg showing half of their endoskeleton in their profiles. As you can see from the image of the T-X on the right, this Terminator model appears to have blue-tinted eyes and a chassis more resembling the T-800 than the liquid metal T-1000. [Taken from the official movie website.]

December 18, 2002... Beginning today the first full trailer for Terminator 3 starts playing in theaters nationwide. If you're eager to check it out right now, it's available for download from the movie's official website. Witness more hunter-killers, the T-X in leaping action and Arnie deliver the line "She'll be back." [Scooped by Matthew Crawley, 'Woodburn', 'Trailer Scooper', 'GATEkeeper', Ricardo Sousa, 'tomko' and 'totaman20'.]

And we got this bit of opinion from GATEkeeper: "Saw the Terminator 3 trailer last night at the midnight showing of Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers. Have to say, I was expecting a lot from the trailer, and it totally didn't deliver. The crowd cheered when we first saw Arnie, but at the end he says 'She'll be back' [referring to the female terminator] and everyone just groaned. If the films half as cheesy as the trailer, things don't look too good." [And that was GATEkeeper.]

But 'Tomko' doesn't agree with GATEkeeper at all, saying the trailer looks just "awesome".

December 24, 2002... The BBC internet website has posted
three behind-the-scenes clips from T3 showing the film's stars and director working on the set of the film. [The Arnold Fans caught wind of it first.]

January 3, 2003... The first two images on Latino Review's page for Terminator 3 are brand new, and from the recently released Warner Bros. 2003 theatrical preview release given to the press. One is a close-up of the complex make-up design on Schwarzenegger showing the cyborg metal underneath his skin, the other is a group shot of the Terminator, John Connor and Kate Miller escaping. [First appeared online at Latino Review.]

January 14, 2003... The FilmJerk website has confirmed a 30-second commercial for Terminator 3 will debut during Superbowl XXXVII. FilmJerk also has word that the T3 Superbowl commercial will feature different material than the trailer currently playing in theaters. [First appeared on FilmJerk.]

January 20, 2003... The T3 Nexus website has some great material worthy of a look including a report of the T3 chase footage screened to attendees at last weekend's Los Angeles Auto Show, as well as
twenty-five photos taken of the footage. The scene is of a chase sequence between police and the Terminator who is behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra vehicle. A limited edition of the Tundra (dubbed the "T3") will be made available to consumers this summer -- now you see why there was a movie presence at the auto show. ['RossBond' told us about it first.]

April 25, 2003... How many new images from TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES does EyeTide have? Quite a few -- as in several dozen. The website has never-before-seen shots, computer graphics and what appears to be conceptual designs showing off T3's machines and they're all from Warner Bros.

May 16, 2003... The latest trailers for TERMINATOR 3, BAD BOYS II and THE LAST SAMURAI are now ready for download at Apple's trailer site.

The T3 trailer is the new domestic one released with THE MATRIX RELOADED, and emphasizes the Judgement Day portion of the film's story. New shots of T-800s and the T-X are scattered throughout the trailer, as well as two scenes with big booms. Watch the war begin by clicking here. [Apple.com.]

June 18, 2003... Thanks to a reader named "Valaryc", we've got some amazing snapshots from last weekend's TERMINATOR 3 panel and display held at the Los Angeles Comic Book Convention. Among the attendees on the T3 panel were stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kristinna Loken and Nick Stahl, special effects supervisor Stan Winston and director Jonathan Mostow. All five talked about their experiences making T3 as well as answered questions from the fans in attendance.

Stan Winston also brought three of his amazing creations from the movie including a battle-damaged T-850 Terminator that sports an incredibly realistic recreation of Schwarzenegger's face; a full-body design of the T-X; and the predecessor to the Hunter-Killer machines seen in the trilogy, a T-11 robot that's from the present day.

Valaryc had these eyewitness observations to offer about the Terminators shown at the con.

On the T-X: "The 'T-X' is a darker black chrome then Arnold's 'outdated' T-850. The eyes as shown in the close-up pic actually narrow like real human eyes and the statue makes a 'breathing' noise with steadily fading blue LEDs weaved throughout its structure."

On the T-11: "The massive (and I do mean huge) first Terminator known as a 'T-ll' which has a slanted back body, and a huge treadmill design simular to a 'Hunter Killer' bot (ground ones) with huge titanic looking, jet black gatling guns for arms."

And on the Arnold Terminator: "The model of the T-850 shows only one detail of T3, that Arnold is going to get seriously screwed up in this movie, particualry if you see the flesh clinging to his feet."

During the actual talk the panelists were tight-lipped and revealed next to nothing about T3's storyline or any of the twists expected. "The actual event has interesting circumstances. For some reason the basis of the 'presentation' was to push the movie and yet everyone of the stars as well as the director made it a point not to discuss much of the details of the movie, in fact the so called 'viewing of scenes from T3' end of the presentation consisted of just a look at the TV spot trailer," said our source, Valaryc.

"I would find it rather suspicious that in an effort to 'push' the movie everyone was very timid to release any details of the movie, other then 'In this movie, Arnold's Terminator model is outdated, facing the TX and having to cope with swaying from being good and bad while trying to accomplish its mission to protect John Connor from termination.'"

Valaryc also mentioned that there was an autograph signing after the panel but that Schwarzenegger didn't participate. Of the remaining T3 cast and crew, Stan Winston earned points with our scooper by sticking it out and signing his name for all who wanted it.

[Massive props to our friend in the field, Valaryc, for sending us the best shots yet of the new Terminators! You've earned a sweet spot on John Connor's command team.]

June 25, 2003... A source working in show business has told us Warner Bros. has given the go ahead for theaters to hold early screenings of TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES on July 1. The movie is scheduled to begin its theatrical run in North America on July 2.

Warner Bros. decision to allow early showings of T3 isn't unusual; studios usually have a showing of their big "event" movies in the late evening the day before the picture's opening day or even sometimes at midnight screenings. What is unusual about Warners approval for the T3 showings is the early time that theater owners can choose to start showing the sci-fi actioner. According to our person on the inside, screenings of T3 can begin at 8:00 PM on July 1. That means two showings of each print of the film can be sold before the first day even starts. Conceivably that can boost the first day grosses of T3, of which the early showings ticket sales are included with. However, it will remain up to each individual theater manager to decide if they wish to show early sneaks of TERMINATOR 3.

[Thanks to our friend working for the resistance.]

After Its Release:

July 3, 2003... The monies have been counted and the prognosis for TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES looks rosy, at least based on the revenue generated from the pic's Tuesday sneak preview screenings. T3 took in a little over $4 million dollars during Tuesday evening at 2,569 theaters. It's one of the largest preview grosses of all time and is bound to give Warner Bros. good vibes as we move toward the long weekend. [Variety, The Hollywood Reporter.]
