Producer James Middleton (the same producer behind the upcoming Sarah Connor Chronicles) has announced that The Halcyon Company is prepping TERMINATOR 4 for a 2009 release. Pre-production for the fourth installment in the film will begin in October by the same writing team as T3: Rise of the Machines, scribes Michael Ferris and John D. Brancato. This movie is expected to launch a new trilogy of the Terminator franchise.

The characters John Connor and Kate Brewster are in the current script for T4 but the film will center on a new hero which is influenced by John Connor's leadership in the war against the machines. It is not known by Middleton whether Nick Stahl and Claire Danes will reprise their roles at this point.

Production begins next month and expect TERMINATOR 4 to hit theaters sometime in 2009.

well, i beleive it s a smart moove, a new trilogie based on the war with the machine will be a succes for sure, and won t be a problem for the script....Soon new generation will even don t see the link with our old arnie !

Well, I definitely don`t agree with that. No matter what they do, fans will always link The Governator to the Terminator franchise. It is cool that they are focusing more on the war rather than trying to change the past. Its a natural progression. We know the war was inevitable so why not show what happened next.

On another note, I managed to check out the Sarah Chronicles pilot. It actually didn`t suck. What I would love to see, if the show went on for like 2 or more seasons is a cameo from Arnold. That would be Phat!

All three films were great to good movies but I've had a few problems with certain casting choices, among them Eddie Furlong. With so many talented Hollywood child actors in the world, I just thought that Furlong was awkward. I mean, who are we fooling, he could barely act??? However...I must say, his casting was handled much better than George Lucas' casting choices with respect to the Star Wars prequels. Both actors that played Anakin Skywalker were horrible!!!

ponyboy you are too much involved to see from outside point of view, let me give you a good exemple...snake plisken ! You think they care about kurt russel who create the character ! they focus on the story, actors are tools, tools have time limit, not story ! star wars without ian solo it s possible...and it s great ! I bet you will see soon a new version of dirty harry with a new clint eastwood...

Acting choices were never Lucas's strongpoint...

Mark Hamill wasn't exactly shakespeare but he got the job done..

That was a very cheap shot at Mark Hamill. I think the reason the prequels aren't as good is because directing actors is not Lucas's strongpoint. The fact that the original Star Wars succeeds in spite of that direction is a real tribute to the actors, Mark Hamill included. In Empire he spends half the movie talking to a green puppet and somehow manages to make us believe that puppet is alive...

Awesome, I was worried after it was reported in the summer that there was a dispute over who would produce and distribute T4. And I heard Arnold will have a brief cameo, which will be fun.

It'd be kinda cool if the "new hero inspired by Conner" was none other than Kyle Reese. The last shot of the new trilogy could be Kyle stepping onto time displacement gizmo to go back to the first movie to start things off. That would make it a perfect unbroken circle.

I loved the first 3,,,,and I know A lot of people did not like the change in the end of T3, but I loved it,,,plus T3 wasn't all like preachy and whiny,,,that was my only problem with T2.....They can do so much cool stuff if done right, being it is in the future after the war. And I agree with the Kyle Reese idea,,,,,that would be awesome.
