TERMINATOR Future in Limbo

Bankruptcy could force Terminator Sale.

In a feature piece focusing on Halcyon working their way through the bankruptcy process, the Los Angeles Times confirms that rights to Terminator may be changing hands once again. The franchise, one of Halcyon Holding Group's only viable assets, will likely be up for grabs just a few years after the company's executives, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, acquired the rights for $25 million.

Anderson and Kubicek's Halcyon Holding Group has engaged financial advisory firm FTI Capital Advisors, pending bankruptcy court approval, to "evaluate strategic alternatives," according to a statement. Since Halcyon's only valuable asset is the Terminator rights, any deal would involve an investment in, or outright sale, of them.

"We're going to be contacting a variety of studios and independent companies," said Kevin Shultz, senior managing director at FTI. "We think the values are considerably in excess of the purchase price."

Since "The Terminator" was released in 1984, the franchise rights have changed hands more frequently than that of any other major Hollywood film series. When the first movie came out, production company Hemdale Film Corp. owned a 50% interest and director James Cameron sold the other half to producing partner and future wife Gale Anne Hurd for $1.

Sony Pictures, the international distributors of Terminator Salvation, have reportedly expressed interest in the acquiring the rights but they haven't commented publicly on the report above.

After "Salvation", can't say that this really interests me at all.  The thing that pisses me off the most about "Salvation" is that I was enjoying it perfectly fine up until the end.  It's like watching the most brutal, gory, and awesome slasher flick of all time, and then having the killer be a fluffy bunny...not even a kick ass fluffy bunny like in Monty Python...just a regular fluffy bunny who managed to get people by surprise.

This won't change the movie license deal anyway. So T5 will probably move ahead anyway if they want to continue it

Salvation was a mixed bag for me, I can't help but think how ironic that title is. Critically panned, Terminators true salvation might just be a change in ownership. Either way after making over 370mil the franchise will be harder to kill then it's antagonist with the classic line ringing in my ears..."I'll be back"...Lets just hope Mc.G (music video director) won't be coming back...

That would be pretty nice to see on the dollar menu on Mcdonald's.  Movie franchises!

I wish we can all go back in time via Skynet and force James Cameron into making Terminator 3, giving us a true sequal and future war we deserved to see on film. Thus, completing the best Trilogy ever. I'm a true believer that James Cameron should have stayed on board and completed his final vision.

WhiteKnight 9/29/2009 5:06:03 AM

James Cameron did complete his final vision of Terminator. He did it in 1991 with a film called Terminator 2: Judgement Day. At least this has always been my understanding of why he didn't return.

TTSCC direct to dvd movie or just freakin use the same actors in a movie. The Story on the TV Show was amazing and what they were gonna do for a season 3 would have been compelling.

The Future sets for the show were great, I loved how they showed Nuked out Terminator Ravaged LA. Josh Friedman you the man !!!!

I wish someone would wake the hell up and own up to this show. Give it some justice at least tie up the Season 3 which would have had john in the future a no name having to work his way up fighting side by side with his father and uncle derek.

EITHER THAT or Cameron gets off his lame ass and makes us a few "future" oriented Terminator movies and treat us all to something special. Im not impressed by this avatar crap a Terminator movie by Jim yes thats impressive.

Yeah I was looking forward to season 3 with a young John Conner traveling to a future where he never existed.

Jimmy boy!!! This is your chance, spend that 25 mil and get your rights back and save your beloved franchise from being raped anymore than it has!!  You know 25 is probably a drop in the bucket for you, come on!! Don't let us down!!
