Expanding on September's story that future rights to the Terminator franchise is in limbo with Halcyon entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the Financial Times has updated on which specific companies are looking towards shelling out cash for the rights to the lucrative brand name.

Several financial buyers have expressed interest in Terminator. All the big film studios have also registered interest in the rights, with Sony Pictures a leading contender, according to a person familiar with the situation. Sony declined to comment.

Summit Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight series, is tracking the sale, as is Media Rights Capital, which produced Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno, the person added. The rights are being sold by Halcyon, the production company behind Terminator Salvation, the latest instalment in the series, which grossed $380m worldwide. The auction does not cover earlier Terminator films.

well i hope they still make terminator 5 and 6 with whatever  production company

The best of Terminator has been done thanks to Cameron and fans in general will never be totally satisfied because the bar was raised so high with the first two

But the ideal thing to do IMHO is to disregard parts 3 and 4, pay Cameron a bizillion dollars to at least consult/guide/produce, since he's too busy to direct, and maybe the franchise can recapture some traction with most fans

And get rid of the douche playing Connor

Wise... Are you sure? Why not let 5 and 6 go with needed corrections and work to gain traction with what you have.

Bringing in Cameron for "Payola", after he said he had done his stories, sounds like a drop back and punt to me. I feel we need to be respected as fans and have talented people who want to be there not talented people who are cashing a paycheck. I think Cameron is great because he never has to do anything he’s not passionate about. I haven't heard anything that makes me think he would bring that passion back to the franchise. That said he and his team would be better at faking it than Heidi Fleiss.

What I'll do is buy the rights, then have Josh Friedman get the cast of TTSCC and make a epic Terminator movie. =)

Not for nothing Cameron needs to return to the Terminator Franchise and quit screwing around with Cat people and nonsense and do a full on future war Terminator movie. Now that would give me the chills anything less is ehhhhhhhhhh.

Altho id love some more Bale - yelling at people haha

DrSpiderhead 11/2/2009 6:16:48 AM

I thought T4 was really good stuff and look forward to seeing 5 and 6.

Hobbs 11/2/2009 6:58:01 AM

I agree with Wise...they continue with 4 and 5 and only die hards like SgtTech, who like it no matter how bad it truly is, will ever support it.

Right now with the rights up in the air hopefully whoever buys it will bring some sense back to a once proud franchise.   I see this as only a good thing in the short term as this means any plans for sequels to part 4 are up in the air.

I am on board with another movie. Cameron told his story, and it was great, but I have enjoyed the two sequals as well. I am not a movie douche, so I can enjoy a movie for what it is. I think they can do some cool things with the story, but i would like to see a kick-ass director step in. Maybe someone like Len Wiseman, The Wachoskis, Peter Berg....and fuck, I would evn love to see Michael Bay take a stab at it. Imagine the destruction he could deliver.....nice!!

ThemanG01 11/2/2009 7:37:15 AM

Whisky, the Wachowski's already ended this franchise.  At the time they called it "The Matrix".

Wiseguy 11/2/2009 7:59:48 AM

I guess anyone who doesn't like a movie for what it is is a douche now, that sounds like a pretty douchie thing to say I think

SgtTechCom, use the production team from Sarah Conner Chronicles to make an epic Terminator movie? WTF! How are we suppose to take you seriously man?

I can take a movie for what it is? I took the first two terminator films for being really good, why should myself, Wise, Hanso, Hobbs, or anybody else who doesn't like the sequals settle for less? I agree with Wise, that was a pretty douchie thing to say. And let Michael Bay direct a Terminator movie? As if the franchise had been put through the ringer, let's bend it over a little more.
