OK, this week was a step up from last week’s episode, but there are still problems. First of all it has gotten way to easy to kill Terminators. Why is it this “magic bullet” has never been around in previous incarnations of the franchise? It’s not fan service to see a Terminator constantly get killed on this series. In fact, just the opposite would be more suspenseful and interesting. The writer’s job would be much tougher if the Terminator didn’t get killed though. It would be necessary for the Connors to come up with more creative means to thwart the plans of SkyNet. Also, what happened to going on the offensive against the future and SkyNet? It seems like the crew has spent most of the season so far in defense mode.

In previous incarnations of the Terminator franchise, Sarah was beat down by her knowledge of what’s to come. In fact, there’s that fantastically effective dream sequence in the second film where she can’t seem to stop the coming destruction. Why aren’t the creators of the series building these dream sequences into the show? Heady does a good job of being burdened on the show it would just be nice to see that burden played out more in the series. Seeing Sarah be challenged by a young child was a step forward in that direction. The scene where he tells her she’s not a very good mom and her response that she is trying to get better is particular strong.

The reading of the book by Sarah and the kid utilized as narration during the fight scenes with the particularly intimidating Triple * was also a really impactful scene. If only the resolution of that scene weren’t so tied up. Dekker is back this week and Cameron has almost nothing to do. The writers really need some help with balancing this ensemble cast. Other series have much larger casts and they do a better job of including everyone in each episode.

Also of note this week is the really low budget looking scenes from the future. On top of the look of the scenes, the actor who played Martin Badell looked way too young in the scenes and he never had the presence of a leader, especially in the same room with Dekker.

Catherine Weaver’s story is getting more interesting because with her it appears that SkyNet has finally decided not to hedge its bets on simply defeating the resistance in the past because they’ve not had much success. Her procedure is to move into a position of influence in a large company and slowly quietly build SkyNet and to tie up any lose ends that happen to get in the way. Shirley Manson isn’t the strongest of actors but she does make a cool looking Terminator. She’s a better actress than Kristanna Loken. Her story does convolute the waters of continuity a bit within the franchise though.

This episode overall is a much stronger installment than last weeks. Sarah had a few small moments that really worked and the reference to the film of how the Terminator will find his prey was cool. Although I do wonder: Why couldn’t SkyNet have programmed him to use the internet?

The show's writers have demonstrated the mileage this property can do on the small screen, and it isn't that much. I predict this will become the next Smallville, a series that is painted into a corner from day one, and is constantly throwing whatever it can into the mix to prolong the life of a show. Even at the expense of good stories, characters, what have you. Skynet should take a backseat. Introduce some other bad guys. Because if you keep defeating the same enemy over and over, they become a toothless threat. And rename the show Terminator Chronicles. The namesake seems to be a supporting character.

First off, its not convoluting the waters of continuity, because the creators time and time again have stated that this show and the Terminators movies at least part 3 aren`t in the same continuity. Secondly, it makes total sense at least to me, that if the resistance in the future can capture and reprogram a T-888 there is no reason to believe that they wouldn`t know how to destroy one. If not, it would be a short war. The T-888 are foot soldiers, kind of like storm troopers. Some of them are more advanced, like Cromartie, but they are still basically the same metal, which with the right firepower can be destroyed just as they did in the original Terminator. Arnie was indestructible and Sarah and Kyle didn`t exactly have a great arsenal. I do agree that if Derek had this type of bullet before he should have used it but in all fairness, he could have got it from the academies armory, because he didn't have that rifle either. All and all it was a good episode. I like the scenes with Sarah and the kid. And I have to say, Cameron is starting to creep me out. I keep thinking that she is just going to turn on them at any moment. I no longer trust her. On a side not Lackey, Dude! What happened to the Supernatural review? That was an awesome episode, but no review?

I sometimes think that Shirley's Terminator may be thinking independently from Skynet. Perhaps buildinga version of Skynet that would suit her needs in the future. I get the feeling it knows there are other Terminators there but not who they are or what their mission is. That would be an interesting twist. And Stephen, the show is evolving past the boundaries of the movies, so you can probably expect to see more things that have "never been around in previous incarnations of the franchise".

From the title I thought this was canceled. I hope it stays on. I don't mind the easy kills on triple 8's. They are just robots and they know how to deal with them seeing as how they have one always working for them. Or whatever model Cameron is. They do need to change the airtime however to help this series out. Fri would be good or back to Sun.

I'm sure the producers would be tickled pink if this became the next Smallville. That show seems to be a critical as well as rating success story. Plotwise, I didn't find it all that unusual that they could find a magic bullet to kill the T-888. This was a military installation, after all. I don't imagine it is really easy to get that kind of firepower even on the black market, particularly in small quantities. And I don't agree that ensemble casts need to have the episodes balanced for every episode. In fact the opposite is true the larger the ensemble. Take Lost, for example, where characters can disappear for multiple episodes. And while this isn't really a large ensemble, even those tend to "feature" characters from one to the next. And this is good. Focus brings out things about characters that you couldn't do with less time.

I agree it does seem Sarah has taken on a supporting role the last two weeks thus the name of the show doesn't really work. Still no word on the back end of this show being picked up. Since the Fringe was already picked up for the full season you have to think this show is in trouble. Hey, did I miss it somewhere that John told Reece he was his nephew? I remember Sarah telling John not to tell Reece the truth but I don't remember him not listening.

the "magic" bullet has always been around but never used before - that's what i couldn't figure out. the magic bullet used was a 12.7 mm (.50 caliber) round. it's been around before world war 2. unless the t888's have some kind of advanced metal alloy, my assumption was that a .50 would/should be used against them instead of 5.56 (m-16's, etc.,) or shotgun slugs/buckshot. the military currently uses this round as an "anti-material" round (against light armour) and as a very long distance sniper round. the major drawback about using this round and any rifle or heavy machine gun designed to fire it is WEIGHT - pretty much impossible for an individual to lug it around and try to run while fighting t888's. only time they could be used is if the human could be stationary and had time (which in this episode, he conveniently did). my major problem with the show is the continuity issues that they are bringing up. moreover, why use outdated t888's when more advanced/deadly models are around? i think lena is far superior as sarah connor. john needs to stop being so whiny and immature. hobbs: reece figured it out on his own. in an episode, for john's birthday, reece took john for an icecream cone and showed john kyle (his dade) and reece as young kids throwing a football.

Two things: One has to remember that, since Sarah is narrating the series, it IS HER chronicles, and perhaps, ultimately, we will find that John is reading them. Second, the previous movies had the Terminator appear and send the heroes on the run, gathering what armament they can, and it not always being the optimal kind. Since the series more or less has them planning and expecting the machines, it stands to reason they have better equipment to battle them, especially since two of the heroes are from the future, and experienced in dispatching them.

"I predict this will become the next Smallville, a series that is painted into a corner from day one, and is constantly throwing whatever it can into the mix to prolong the life of a show" So it'll be like Prison Break, then

I loved this episode. Saving a guy to help JC later form the resistance and then basically sacrifices himself saving him too. Derek of course knew this and that's why he admired the kid, yet seemed troubled because of what the future held for him. If JC was a true leader he would've went back and told Bedell to leave with his girl to spare him from what Derek told him was going to happen.
