And they're off! Warner Bros. has passed along a press release saying that production has officially launched for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the first installment of a new trilogy starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. Bale is central figure John Connor in the characters 30s-40s while Aussie actor Worthington is playing a new central figure named Marcus.

Worthington got the part after original James Cameron recommended him to new director McG in one of their phone calls a few months ago.
The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star. The WB press release is below.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, starring Sam Worthington and Christian Bale, began principal photography on May 5, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Halcyon Company Presentation of a Moritz Borman Production of a McG Film, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is directed by McG from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. In the highly anticipated new installment of "The Terminator" film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins marks the latest installment of the multi-billion dollar "Terminator" franchise and will be the first film in a new "Terminator" trilogy. Thats great news. But I have two questions. 1: Are they still going with a PG-13 rating? and 2: who is playing the main terminator? I know there were rumors about both, but has there been any solid info coming from the warner bros camp?

I know warner bros thinks they have a cash cow in resurecting the terminator franchise, but if they make it a PG-13 franchise, they will find they have made a HUGE mistake. I know alot of loyal terminator fans will steer clear of a PG-13 terminator movie. I hope they make the right choice. There are plebty of movies out there for the kiddies about singing and dancing and all that junk, leave our TERMINATOR ALONE WB, KEEP IT R RATED!!!

End of short rant...lol

Preach it, Dark Knight2280.Yes, it's still targeted as PG-13.

But continue to preach it! Perhaps they'll listen. Rightttttt...who am I kidding?

PS: Main terminator is being kept under wraps. No confirmations. I'm sure over the summer or into the fall, someone will leak it. Probably at the upcoming Con...

I got goose bumps. I think I'm over the pg13 thing. Maybe I'm a defeatist, but I'm just starting to look forward to this with high anticipation. Maybe is because I just finished watching the original. I'm also glad is coming out next year because right now it doesn't appear like we're going to get the superhero treatment we're getting this year. Bring it on McG

I have no problem with these movies being PG-13. As has been previously posted by others, PG-13 is just as good as R was when the movies originally came out. I'm sure none of us would even notice the difference. You wouldn't need it anyways unless you need John Conner to drop constant F-bombs, a post-apocalyptic topless bar scene, or terminators ripping people's innards out and plastering them on the walls.

What are you guys? 15 or something that you hate R movies so much. You don't have a clue about the movie ratings. I keep reading about F bombs being reason why and though that does make a difference in a movie, PG-13 is a long way from R. Could Saving Private Ryan been PG-13 or if you kids haven't seen that movie how about something released cloer to your age group like 300? No chance in hell could those have been PG-13. Blood, violence are big reasons for R movies. Both reasons by the way are why T-4 should be R and because it won't you have to cut back on both so you can make toys for the kiddies. T-4 should have a Private Ryan scene seeing its the end of the world. If you have a problem with R movies stick with saturday morning cartoons of scooby doo or wait for the animated saturday morning Terminator cartoon that I'm sure will follow this movie if McChicken has anything to say about it. R = Rule!

Hobbs, I don't have any problem if they decide to make these movies R-rated. It's just that nowadays pretty much any violence that might be needed storywise is now allowed under PG-13. Need somebody's head blown off? PG-13. Need limbs laying around a battlefield? PG-13. Need people disintergrated on-screen? PG-13.
The only circumstances they seem to demand an R-rating for violence is the "torture porn" type of films such as Saw or Hostel. These are films where not only do they show the violent acts in close-up detail with body organs being destroyed but also the deep traumatizing effects on the participants. The same for Saving Private Ryan. A major part of that film was to show the true horror of war. An R-rating was needed for that. The Terminator films are mainly sci-fi action adventure with explosions and multiple gunshots and such in them. I don't know the storyline they have set up for the upcoming trilogy but from what they have portrayed in the previous films a PG-13 would probably suffice.

I’m a bit partial to an R rating myself. These should be bloody violent and PG-13 can’t shake that “it’s more about marketing toys” feel to me. Which I know this will eventually become about for a lot of the bigwigs involved. Personally I felt the last Die Hard suffered from it’s PG-13 rating. That won’t keep me out of the theaters for this one though. I’m there.

Love that we’re finally getting a little more detail on story. I love that it involves repercussions from all this time traveling. On it’s surface this franchise is about killer robots out to destroy humanity but it’s really time traveling that’s linking everything together, from the films to the show, and apparently having some serious effects on the whole situation. This opens the doors for those two versions (TV & movies) to coexist. Events in the show have already resulted in the 3rd film being lost from continuity (though how Judgment Day from that film was delayed I’m still waiting on an explanation for). I’m digging these concepts a lot. Looking forward to this and, hopefully, season two of the Connor Chronicles. Anyone know if that’s officially been renewed?

And I thought that friggin' title was changed to Terminator: Mortal or The Future Started or something. What up?

Well, I've heard from a little bird that the since they've already had two male Terminators and a female Terminator (not counting Summer Glau), that the next one will be transgendered appearing much like the Tu Wong Fu characters of Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snips except they will be sporting huge anti-aircraft guns. It won't be for a disguise factor in so much as a what the fuck factor and as everbody just stands there with there jaw touching the tops of their feet the Terminators blow them away.

Or maybe not.

I know in the other Terminators they had the rubber skinned looking Terminators before they made the Arnold model so maybe they won't have the real flesh looking ones in the first one. What I wonder is are all three movies going to be set before Kyle gets sent back or is he getting sent back within the three. Also, this is what I never got about the Terminator movies and I just might make a blog about it to get people's opinion later. But if Connor sent Reese back in time to protect his mother but Kyle ended up being his father how did John exist in the first place since he wasn't born before Kyle showed up. There's no way. And if you are from the future and you die would you really die? Because you're past self is surely still floating around somewhere. I loved the first two Terminator movies but even as a kid I wondered how the first one made sense.

Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams? COOLEST NAME EVER

Monkeyfoot, i see where you are coming from, and on most levels I agree. However i need F bombs and close in violence. After all this movie is about war, just in a different time era. For myself and mostly everyone else here, we are just used to a certain tone in the Terminator movies. T3 was ok, thats because it really didnt fit the tone of the first two. The story i thought would have been way better with a different director and tone. So i see where you are saying PG-13 movies are different now a days and thats true, I just dont want my Terminator to be PG-13 I want it to have little restrictions. If it does end up being PG-13 for sure (if they dont listen to our bitching..lol)I will still go see it. Just wont be as satisfying.
