According to the Hollywood Reporter, Terrence Howard has signed on to join the cast of Marvel's IRON MAN. He will join Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) in the cast.

Howard will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the best friend of Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist who becomes the superhero known as Iron Man. As Rhodes, Howard will appear as a military pilot who assists Stark.

"The richness of the role and complexity of the character seemed to mesh perfectly with the type of passion, energy and emotion that Howard brings to all of his projects," Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige said.

AICN reported in early August that Howard had been offered the part.

I like him, he is a good actor...Whoop that trick!!!...IMHO so far, so good...now there is hoping they get the suit right......

Yeah, I like Howard and he will make a great addition to the flick, but you are right. The suit is definitely key in my mind. The acting could be great, but if they get the suit wrong and it looks stupid, no one is going to care about the acting.

The suit is going to be really tough to do, Iron man has had dozens of different suits with dozens of different takes and variations on those core suits. And, of course, every fan has a favourite... I think this movie may be doomed by the fact that no matter what look they go for, someone is going to be pissed (I doubt they are dumb enough to go so far away from the comic that they piss everyone off). As far as Howard, I am impressed, I know they announced this a while back as a rumor, I'm glad it is official.

Then again, its sort of like the black Spidey suit in 3. We all want to see the big white spider, but they just took the best facets of the comic suit and made it look cool enough for us as fans to accept. They need to do the same thing with the Iron Man Armor. I`d also like to see War Machine, but that doesn't happen in the comic for awhile, so I doubt that they introduce him since I guess its an origin story.

There will probably be allusions to the War Machine armour when Stark assembles his own, as an easter egg for fans. I see this working out similar to the Bruce Wayne/Lucius Fox relationship in Batman Begins.

Plus if Rhodes' character is a pilot then an Iron Man dogfight may not be out of the question...

Great casting...again. Howard is a terrific actor; was amazing in "Crash." I agree with the suit comments. No matter what, someone's not going to like the suit. The colors won't be right or it'll be too much like the Ultimate suit or too much like the classic IM suit. I'm not actually concerned with the suit that much simply because there have been sooooo many IM suits. I'm more concerned that the story is a good one and the characters are fleshed out well. IM characters have always been pretty complex. I'm hoping Favreau gets that part of the movie right.

this sounds familiar HULK?

Faverau, Downey-J, AND Howard!? Somehow this movie is shaping up to be something I really want to see now. And I don't even think Iron Man is all that cool. Hopefully, I will by the time the credits roll.

dax0761...I understand what you're saying, but the difference will be Favreau. Ang Lee was not a Hulk or comics fan. Lee was attracted to the psychological aspects of Hulk and made the movie he wanted. Favreau is an IM fan and knows what the fans want to see. He'll deliver a solid, entertaining movie than comics and IM fans will enjoy. Marvel won't accept anything less, because these films are self financed and they have a lot of cash riding on the film's success.

Looking good. Just hope the suit looks good. So far, Favreau is doing well, so I have faith he won't F- up the suit.
