Oh and a note to Mania.  Your comment section is the least consistent and reliable of any message board on the net.  Post and hope is the order of the day.  Fix it.

Transformers.  Who really cares?

The Green Hornet poster is a mess.  If they use that in North America, I'll be very, very surprised.

Spiderman reboot.  See my Transformers question.

Ghost Rider Deux.  I just wish they'd recast.  Cage ain't the guy.  At least Eva Whatshername is gone.  I've seen better acting in porn.

If I'm wrong about Reynolds' performance, I'll happily eat that crow.  I am a long time GL (man, how I wish they'd done Alan Scott!!) fan and I will be THRILLED if the movie isn't totally defaced by Reynolds mugging for laughs.  It looks like it will be pretty sweet visually and from what I've heard of the story I'll be happy with it as well.  Reynolds is the balance point.  Either his performance will take the movie to great heights or sink it completely.

I'm hoping for a serving of crow when it hits theaters.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's not that I mind that Jordan is portrayed as fun, cocky and humourous.  It's that Ryan Reynolds doesn't do any of that well.  I know he has fans who think he's hilarious, but I think he's about half a step below the class clown in terms of comedic ability.

Robert Downey Jr. pulls off an arrogant narcissist because he's a terrifically talented actor who is able to make arrogant and narcissistic funny.  Ryan just comes off as an arrogant narcissist trying to be funny.  Robert Downey Jr. he ain't.

Just my opinion, obviously.

Secret Origins: The Story of DC Comics DVD Review (Article) - 11/18/2010 8:15:21 PM

I just watched this and truly enjoyed it.  It missed some significant stuff as mentioned, but this was the first time I've ever seen Wonder Woman's I Ching period addressed!  Nice to see a mea culpa on that!

Overall, I'd give it a B .  It was a joyous examination of the media that is comic books and the love really showed through.  I wasn't even annoyed by Ryan Reynolds voice overs.  I was stunned that not even once did they plug the GL movie (although you could hear Reynolds inflect a little more than elsewhere when he first mentions Green Lantern and Hal Jordan).

I've watched tons of this type of documentary about various characters (usually durning the run up to a big movie) but this was really the first good one about the phenomenon of comics as opposed to the phenomenon of a particular character.

Good stuff all around.

COWBOYS & ALIENS Trailer Online (Article) - 11/18/2010 8:14:01 AM

Young Justice.  Soopoyb!  I can't wait!

I watched the trailer with the sound off and enjoyed it far more than what was out there yesterday.  Perhaps I'll get brave and watch with the sound on and maybe I won't be irritated by Ryan Reynolds.

I don't know who Blake Lively is, but I guess she looks Carol Ferris-ee enough.  As for the rest of the teaser clip, meh.  I'm less excited than I was before and I was never that excited about this one.  I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm betting that this is the third best superhero film we'll see next year.  I'd bet money it won't make anyone's top ten superhero film list.

Kilowog looks good, the cgi is hard to judge at the youtube resolution and the clips chosen to represent the story to audiences that likely know little about the character remind me of a cross between the Iron Man and Fantastic Four promos that came out for those films.  Let's hope this one is more IM than FF.

Ryan Reynolds isn't my first choice for this and never will be.  I can't call him an "actor" without mentally preceding it with the term with "comedic".  He's one note and an annoying one at that, at least in everything I've seen him in.

Robert Downey Jr. made the cocky Tony Stark superhero work because he's a great actor.  I just don't see Reynolds pulling off the same sort of performance.  I sincerely hope I'm wrong, since I'd truly love to see a great Green Lantern film this summer.  I really would.

Superman: Earth One Graphic Novel Review (Article) - 11/10/2010 6:51:52 PM

Oh and I was mucho impressed with the costume origin this time 'round.  Having Martha actually have to weave the cloth from thread she painstakingly unwove from indestructible Kryptonian cloth was a nice, credible touch that I haven't seen used before.

Although the "S" explanation was decidedly lame in comparison.
