Walt Disney is really hyping up their Super Bowl spots this week (see the OZ tease here). This one for The Lone Ranger will air during the pre-game show. The tease for it is below as well as a new poster for the film.

Official Synopsis: From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger” also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter.

A Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films presentation, “The Lone Ranger” is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski, with screen story by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and Justin Haythe and screenplay by Justin Haythe and Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio. “The Lone Ranger” releases in U.S. theaters on July 3, 2013.

Why did they give Lone Ranger a Super Bowl spot and not Superman?  WHY?????

lazarus 1/29/2013 2:34:08 PM

Because Superman doesn't wear a mask Kemosabe. And he looks metrosexual in his blue unitard. :)

LOL, good one Laz.  But really...

Did you hear that Disney pulled Clone Wars from Cartoon Network. I guess now that they own SW they can tell them to give us our stuff. Will be interesting to see where they go with it.

Sorry I just can't get past that stupid dead bird on JD's head and his vomiting his lines in that grunting monotone.

Warner Bros has backed off big time from airing Super Bowl spots for its big movies the last few years.  The last time I can clearly remember a WB movie getting a Super Bowl spot was The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions, though I'm sure they had something more recent than that.

Nowadays, the Super Bowl spots mostly go to Paramount, Disney, and Sony, though I think Fast Six is expected to get a spot during the game as well.

I read that too. If season 6 is renewed, it will probably go on Disney XD. But, I thought the original plan for Lucasfilm was 100 episodes/5 seasons anyhow. I think they should put this one to rest.

Don't get me wrong, I love the cartoon but the prequels stuff has been done and done. There is no sense of danger when you know what will eventually happen (the problems with any prequels)

I say cancel it and use the same animation division to work on some of the EU stories. Since Ford, Hamill, Fisher are too old for the Thrawn series, then why not animate it instead? That would be cool.

Clone Wars is going to Disney XD this Fall. it is not getting cancelled.

As for the Lone Ranger movie it looks fun.  I guess I will go see it at the local discount theater ro on Netflix.
