Here are 5 last minute gift ideas for the Maniac friend who has everything.
While walking through the stores thinking about some last minute gift ideas for my friends, I suddenly thought, "what don’t they have already?" What are they already getting? How can I give a great gift, have it be original, not a duplicate and be both something they want and love? Then I thought something, wait... will it actually be in the stores to buy?
So here are 5 itmes that have a 90 to 100% chance of being in the stores up till December 24th.
1. 'Man from Earth'
The tale of a man who reveals to his friends, on the night he is leaving, that he is actually walked the Earth for 14 centuries.
The Movie Lord's reason why to give this as a gift: I caught this film (because of Tim Janson's review) and it blew me away. It is probably the greatest campfire story I have ever heard/ seen. A true work of science fiction from Star Trek scribe, Jerome Bixby.
2. The Walking Dead Book 1 (Walking Dead) (Hardcover)
The Movie Lord's reason why to give a gift: Did you ever wonder what happened to the survivors after the Zombie movie? What was life like in a post Zombie waste land? These books (trade or hardcover) are twisted dark fun storytelling that really illustrates man in his true nature when society breaks down. Perfect read for the cold winter nights ahead (especially with no new TV on the horizon).
3. Watchmen (Paperback)
All right what Maniac buddy doesn't have this book? With the movie coming out in over a year here is your chance to get the uninitiated to read Moore's classic. Perfect for the uncle you got in your family's secret Santa gift exchange. Moore's book redefined comics and is still a classic (hopefully the movie won't tarnish it), besides what gift is better than a classic? You'll have to explain why you gave him a comic, but if anything you'll have something to talk about as the little ones open up their toys. You could drop some extra coin and get him the hard cover.
4. 'Hatchet' (Unrated Director's Cut) (2006)
The Movie Lord's reason why to give this as a gift: You will find ‘Hatchet’ to be so ridiculously violent that you'll love it like you did when you saw 'The Evil Dead' for the first time. The film does have a few flaws but pick it up, bring over some beer and send the girls out so you can sit back with you buddy and relieve how much fun it was to laugh at some crazy horror movie. It just came out in the stores and horror movies usually aren't on non-Maniacs Christmas Lists. It should be easy to find.
5. Stupid plastic toy and gold spray paint.
All right, already I can hear you saying (typing) "what ?". Buy a cheap bobble head or a something fancy like a Star Wars Unleashed figure and spray paint it gold. Invite as many friends over that love to play 3rd person or 1st person mulitplayer shooter games. Create a bracket and fight your friends to see who wins the stupid gold colored trophy. Sounds idiotic? Sounds like a pretty good idea! Every year I get together with Pennsylvania Owens, Captain Krick, the Hurricane Kid (amongst others) and have a ridiculous night of what we call THROWDOWN! We choose a game, play an hour of warm ups (for those that don't know how to play that particular game) and then we THROWDOWN! It never disappoints.
Hope this tiny list of items helped. Enjoy your holidays and I'll see you in the new year.
