WOLVERINE #66 - Jun 26, 2008 - 11:24pm
In an attempt to save money I put the issue back on the shelf. Figuring the comic store owner was trying to move some product. I really should respect his choices, after all he gave me all the Logan(s) (by Vaughn) in Black and White. I read your review Kurt and ran my ass back to the shop. Thanks for pointing it out. This issue rocks. The only down side is do I read it as it comes out or get it as a hard cover?
Box Office Update: WB Has SMART Victory While HULK Drops - Jun 22, 2008 - 04:22pm
So the Strangers is the most successful movie of the summer? To be successful it must make at least three times what it cost to make the film. It has made 5.4 times what it cost to make. Might not be the best but defiantly the most profitable.
New Trailer For CLONE WARS - Jun 11, 2008 - 07:26pm
raulendymion, I am with you. Star Wars withoput Lucas hasa proven track record of being better. Timothy Zahn, Richard Marquand, Irvin Kershner and Genndy Tartakovsky all of whom have been better than Lucas behind the wheel. I for one will be there.
Shopping Bag: The Italian Hitchcock? - Jun 10, 2008 - 03:31pm

Mezco Announces their SDCC Exclusives - Jun 02, 2008 - 03:37pm
Hey guys I just got an email from my contact at Mezco and he said the following, "I expect the 3.75 Hellboy to sell out quickly, at $10 its one of the more affordable convention exclusives". So there is a least a price on one of these. Robert ~ TheMovieLord

The date was sheduled for earlier. Sorry it must have gotten bumped to this week. It's a tricky business. I once reported a directors cut of Kill Bill Vol.1 to come out in Sept. 07 (according to Amazon) it never arrived. Thanks~ Robert
New HULK Trailer - May 14, 2008 - 10:14am
I love the little piece of the TV show theme at the end.
Second INDY IV Trailer Online! - May 03, 2008 - 08:51pm
All right the new trailer has John Hurt in it. I thought he was playing Abner Ravenwood? Marion's father. I remember reading that on the IMDB site under the Crystal Skull. Now he is billed as "Professor Oxley". Anyone else see him billed as Abner early on?
Official NYCC Posters for HELLBOY & WANTED - Apr 22, 2008 - 06:17pm
They handed 2,008 of those Hellboy 2 posters out and therewas practically a riot for the one del Toro handed out after the panel.
WAR IS HELL #1 - Apr 07, 2008 - 12:52pm
Agreed Kurt! This is exactly where I want a MAX book to take me. Anyone reading the Dead of Night too?

ENCHANTED - Mar 27, 2008 - 07:44am
You're right... I thought I was kind of long winded to begin with... But for you Redshirt1 I'll give you a few dislikes about Enchanted.
1. Carrie Underwood Song for mass media play- If Disney really would have spoofed themselves this song would have been a lot funnier.
2. The cheesy Randy Newman esq song at the ball - again it was playing to the love story but totally ruined the vibe of how much fun the film was.
3. No one died except the bad guy (girl). To truely break convention she should have lived.
This is all nit picking though... B+ is fair... over time I think Enchanted will only improve with age.
I AM LEGEND - Mar 25, 2008 - 11:03pm
The comics were pretty cool. I wish they would do something like that for the Walking Dead (they reminded me a lot of that comic). I agree with you on this DVD Tim... come Xmas time there will be another... just like 30 Days of Night!
Omega Man is stil the version to own.
Alternate Endings - Mar 24, 2008 - 11:14pm
Wow all those downloads and they pull the one I use?! Here is another:

First Look at G.I Joe's SNAKE EYES - Mar 20, 2008 - 10:18pm
There is no way the movie will be as cool as that picture... but I'll keep up my hopes.
THE DEATHS OF IAN STONE - Mar 16, 2008 - 07:28pm
mckracken, believe it or not the mega trailer for after dark features mostly clips from Ian Stone. I didn't get to see Unearthed but Tim will have that review this week. We will have one a day for 8 days. We started on Saturday the 15th and we'll finish on the 22nd.
Next week? You know something I don't?
SMALLVILLE: Hero - Mar 16, 2008 - 05:25pm
I hung in there till this season. After the holiday break I tuned in and 10 minutes into the new episode Lana is oblivious that Bizzaro Clark is not the real Clark. Chloe knew in 10 seconds... Where was the believability???? She's sleeping with him and didn't notice!!!! He's opened up? Lana that should be your first indication that it wasn't Clark. She's leaving the show this season. That should have happen years ago!
LAKE DEAD - Mar 15, 2008 - 12:13am
Gauley, check out "Masters of Horror": Imprint. It was directed by Takashi Miike (who directed Ôdishon (1999) aka "Audition"). That was my favorite. Many are disapointing though.
SERENITY- Better Days - Mar 14, 2008 - 10:28pm
Got the Reevers spelling right. Yeah the character names, not right...
NECA's Beetlejuice: It's Showtime! - Mar 13, 2008 - 02:20pm

thecollector,
Spell checked changed it to Blue-Ray. Silly computer not recognizing a word that didn't exist.
Wait for It... - Mar 11, 2008 - 10:08am
TheLastCleric,
I wasn't attacking George. I was simply trying to tell my readers to wait and they'll get what they want (Blu-Ray) down the road. I was also hoping to get a response out of my readers (thank you by the way).
I have the most respect for George. The business man, the filmmaker, all of him.
This is a marketing ploy to sell people something in essence they really don't need. You know that, I know that, we all know that... Why not release a disc of just these new special features? $$$$$ Again you know that.
I agree with you on Anchor Bay and their Evil Dead's. $$$$$ The last Special edition release was great by the way. Fincher and Zodiac (the original release should have said rent me and buy my special edition later) Oh and TheLastCleric, http://www.mania.com/zodiacthe-directors-cut-2disc-edition_article_57093.html for my DVD review of Zodiac.
And I did discuss the DVD release of No Country for Old Men. One topic was this wasn't a special enough DVD release. If you read the comments by other Maniacs on the DVDs there is often comments looking for review of the special features and not so much about the film. Our columnists have to discuss both the film and the DVD. It is tough line to walk (write) at times. When you have something to say but the film has been talk to to death already.
Again thanks for reading.

A Movie for Kids? - Mar 04, 2008 - 07:10am
Normally I would but 101 DALMATIONS came out today so... But I agree with you "neck tie"... they also eliminate the mother character all together. Not in this one but 90% of the time she is gone.

SUPERMAN VS. HOLLYWOOD - Mar 03, 2008 - 06:51am
Their plight is written about all the way up to the present. It really is the sadest part of the book.
The Oscars Are Happening: Do You Care? - Feb 25, 2008 - 07:41am
I too used to care. I think the last year that I did was LOTR Return of the King. They were giving him the award for all three films on that last one. They had to.
It's not about who wins (those that are nominated) it's about who GETS the most votes. It's like our elections. Other movies can split the vote and some odd ball can emerge victorious.
I actually didn't want it to go on this year. It's all about the clothes anyway. Stewart was funny and the tributes both real and fake were great.
Do they hold any weight with me... NO. They do with normal people who just go to the movies and not LIVE for the movies like we do. But I continue to watch to check out those films you wouldn't hear about except for theie Academy nominations; Short films, Documnetaries, Foreign films.
HEROES Toys: Series 2 & 3 - Feb 19, 2008 - 12:33pm

STAR TREK Pushed to May 2009 - Feb 13, 2008 - 08:06pm
Sweet, now my Comic Con poster and T-shirt really are collectors items (see date on article's picture). Though bummed at waiting 5 more months, I'm glad I'll see Trek in the summer and not the day after Xmas...
New Teaser Poster for Bond's SOLACE - Feb 07, 2008 - 04:37pm
Cool poster, effective and to the point...
reminiscent of the Phantom Menace though...
Arnett Replaced by Val Kilmer for K.I.T.T - Feb 07, 2008 - 07:14am
Welll now I'll never buy a GMC Truck! Yeah take that GMC. If you are so worried about your Image, what you did now caused a backlash. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER will I buy or even ride in a GMC truck. And I'll make fun of those who do and look down on them as a lower being.

The Savage Sword of Conan Vol. 1 - Feb 04, 2008 - 07:53am
joeybaloney, Dark Horse did reprint all of Marvel's Star Wars in giant TPB form. It is anwesome collection. I think there are 12 books?
WANTED SB Spot Online - Feb 02, 2008 - 09:36am
I gotta say where are the other more exotic super villains? I like the acotrs in volve and love the comic. They'll get my money but why make a movie when an HBO mini series would be so much better?
RAMBO - Jan 28, 2008 - 08:27am
Dear shadowprime,
You bring up a good question about the ratings that we have at Mania. I do find it difficult to rate a film based on A through F (at times). This is an action movie so on the scale of action movies where does it rank? Where do Horror films rank in the scope of all films? B+ was what I thought was a solid grade for Rambo. It didn't WOW me enough for an A but it delivers everything I expected. In the scope of Rambo films where does it rank? The first is a classic but does the it rank better than the second one? Does the fear of communism and eighties nostalgia beat out a gritty realistic Rambo? And what about 3? These are tough questions... I hope my review stands on its own and the words convince you about my appreciation of the film. The letter grade is always the last thing I put down...
I hope this helps.

Edward Norton: "Utterly Unrelated" to Previous HULK - Jan 23, 2008 - 03:51pm
After reading Planet Hulk and World War Hulk I am ready for another Hulk movie. I think if the prowers that be would have left Ang Lee go it would have been a better movie instead of the mess it was...
Star Wars: Crimson Empire - Jan 23, 2008 - 03:49pm
Back when Dark Horse started doing their expanded universe saga the rest of comics were bogged down in mulitiple covers and clones. I have the originals and the stories were great. Thanks Tim, now I gotta dig out the Star Wars long box...
Family Guy: Blue Harvest - Jan 21, 2008 - 04:00pm
The Chicken is going to be Boba Fett!?!?

Family Guy: Blue Harvest - Jan 20, 2008 - 09:09am
If you know Star Wars you should appreciate most of the humor. There are a few character Family Guy jokes but a Star Wars fan should love it.
Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight - Jan 18, 2008 - 10:02pm
WOW "valthonis" got some pent up frustration? When reviewing a title I watch on its own and try and be objective based on the work. Sorry I didn't have time to jump in and read some D&D books or a DL book so I would be better prepared for a 90 minute cartoon. The work should be able to stand on its own. This one didn't do so well. Maybe the next one will be better?

Great titles guys (thanks for adding to the list). MASK! I totally forgot about that one. Plus I didn't even know Inhumanoids was out on DVD... sweet!
As for the moral issue...
I am cop's kid and a writer/ producer... I feel for those guys who are not making any thing off thier work. So I'd like to pay for it and hope the writers gets something, plus it feels like stealing to me. Plus when you buy "pirated" stuff, it always looks like shit.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END 2-disc Limited Edition - Dec 23, 2007 - 06:58pm
Wow, this is a rough room. Whatever happened to peace on Earth and good will to men? Tim, I agree with you on your review of the film. As for the DVD extras, since I disliked the film (immensely), I appreciate you giving us the low down on them.
STARDUST - Dec 17, 2007 - 04:48pm
riomston,
It had some bloopers and deleted scenes but no commentary track. One by Neil Gaimen would have been great. The "Making of" was okay but obviously nothing really to write about.

MAN FROM EARTH - Dec 17, 2007 - 12:48am
Watched it this weekend. WOW. Now I know what movie to get the friends who have everything!
THE SIMPSONS MOVIE - Dec 15, 2007 - 01:25am
"due to the censors" like what? Bart's member being on display?
THE STAR WARS VAULT - Dec 10, 2007 - 12:37am
Great Book, check out the Marvel Vault book that has the same format! Both are on the Xmas list.
After the Credits - Dec 04, 2007 - 08:10pm
I loved the beginning... but once they found Jack it became a snore fest. If Jack would have taken over instead of Will and had to serve... then I wouldn't have felted cheated. But to each his own.
JERICHO Returns to CBS on Feb.12 - Dec 04, 2007 - 05:03pm
I've been spreading the word trying to get people to watch the show on DVD but you can watch it for free on Veoh! Totally worth it.
After the Credits - Dec 04, 2007 - 05:00pm
See as I saw it does open it up for another movie. I thought Captain JacK was off finding the fountain of youth because he feels some guilt for not taking over Davy Jones' spot and Will getting the short end of the stick. So he'll find the fountain and keep Elizabeth young until Will's time of service is up... This extra scene was sorta sad and in my opinion left it open that their story could continue. Though I do agree with Quatchkopf and the story should have just ended after 2.
Completist? - Nov 20, 2007 - 12:46pm
I think box sets are the perfect way to pick up the films you don't like. Sure Die Hard 2 wasn't the best but it did have it's moments, but i loved 1, 3, and 4. After awhile they go on sale or are cheap when the next one comes out... Example the Saw collection (1-3) next year when Saw V comes out shuld be dirt cheap.
BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Action Figure Collector Set - Nov 19, 2007 - 09:09am
DC Direct is a great line but there hype starts way too early. Maybe they should post a month or two before the figure actually comes out?
MAN FROM EARTH - Nov 18, 2007 - 11:01pm
Richard Schenkman, was at Horror Con 9, and was a really down to earth guy. Of course this was no where to be found at the megaplex... I just moved it up to 1 on the netflix... thanks Tim.
STAR TREK: The Menagerie - Nov 14, 2007 - 12:59pm
Maybe the crowd being dead didn't really help? BSG:Razor the night before had a great crowd. I know I shouldn't compare the two, but it was still a theater experince.
Those scenes of the Doomsday Machine were awesome... I think it cheapened what I saw. They should have shown that instead. I still think the Menagerie is great, I was just rating the overall HD theater experince and what I was paying 12.50 for, even though I already have the episode on DVD at home. I went for a big crowd and big screen hoping for big thrills. It wasn't.
MEET THE ROBINSONS - Nov 14, 2007 - 12:51pm
I have heard nothing but good things about thisw movie... Moving it to the top of the Netflix!
STAR TREK: The Menagerie - Nov 14, 2007 - 12:14pm
Lister,
What was meant by the "Pike years" comment is that Parmount missed a chance to tell some great stories. I knew what the Menagerie was and is... I just thought wouldn't it have been interesting to see the Enterprise under Pike's command for its own series. My comment on 'Enterpirse' was that the show was simply over done Trek plots, Paramount should have done a show about Pike and Spock, not Archer and Topol.

Kring Preparing Early HEROES Finale - Nov 04, 2007 - 02:16pm
I know scab is a term used for people who break the picket line but after all those years of wanting to get a job in Hollywood or having your dream project come to light and be a success, how could you walk away from it? It's gotta be tough on these writers and they deserve more than what they are getting...
The X-FILES Complete Collector's Edition Hits Tuesday - Nov 04, 2007 - 02:12pm
I don't buy individual seasons anymore because they do this now. Have a huge box set that is easier to store and has better features.

They are creating buzz! And a marketing game plan. We'll buy another t-shirt, poster, etc... after they change the title...
again.
DVD Shopping Bag Column Has Arrived - Sep 04, 2007 - 10:47am
It does opens with the barrel of blood, but there is no title sequence in the bond fashion. It is more like Charde or Psycho (cartoon dots). In short there are no naked women dancing around or a song with the words "Dr.No". "3 Blind Mice" barely qualifies as a Bond title song. And no mini adventure before the opening titles either.
Offbeat Observations - Aug 15, 2007 - 11:04am
"At the aforementioned panel, Quesada confirmed his distaste for Peter Parker’s continued marriage to his wife, Mary Jane Watson-Parker." - Funny, at the Philadelphia convention Quesada said this was one of things he would never change in the Marvel Universe... Peter and Mary Jane's marriage. hmmm...

A Look at Ledger as the Joker - May 20, 2007 - 10:10pm
Are toys really where the money is anymore? I am sure George Lucas would disagree with me. But for new wave of DC films... Superman Returns and Batman Begins I have noticed a lot of toys sitting in the discount rack for these films? Is it a saturated market? Or are there enough kid friendly action figures out there? The Spider-Man 3 toys are every where but I am not seeing a lot of empty Spider-Man shelves.
Besides harsh for the kiddies? The movie will PG-13... most 13 year olds really aren't playing with toys anymore...
A Look at Ledger as the Joker - May 20, 2007 - 09:48pm
Nice scar...
Remember at the end of Batman Begins, Gordon talks about one upmanship... we wear bullet broof vests... they fire armor piercing bullets... You wear costume... this guy leaves a calling card...
He's crazy and a bit disfigured... Awesome, cannot wait!
Narpin it isn't all that bad. What are you some armchair director?
In an attempt to save money I put the issue back on the shelf. Figuring the comic store owner was trying to move some product.
