Snakes on a Plane (2006), starring Samuel L. Jackson and Julianna Margulies (I wondered what happened to her). Finally took off this weekend. To be honest with you this is a movie I have been looking forward to see since I first heard about it. The title alone sparks even a little interest but when Sam Jackson made them keep the title Snakes on Plane (they were going to have a more serious title Flight 121) I knew then that it was going to be a must see.

The premise, well it’s fairly obvious, but the more detailed premise is: an FBI agent, Sam Jackson must escort a witness, ……, who will testify against an L.A. mob boss. The mob boss puts a whole bunch of lethal snakes on his plane and has the snakes sprayed with hormones which drive them wild; hence, driving insanity on this routine red eye flight from Hawaii to LA.

Does the movie deliver? Yes it promised snakes on plane and that is exactly what we got. I went to a sneak preview show on Thursday night because I knew the audience that would be there would be one that would really be into seeing Snakes on Plane. I would like to continue this review with saying I have never seen a person stand up in the middle of a movie and applaud a moment. I saw it for the first time with Snakes on a Plane. There were people who were dressed up as flight attendants, people who had rubber snakes. They laughed, cheered, screamed, and even did a collective awe. This heightened the experience. It made the movie fun on a totally different level. This movie is supposed to be fun. Crazy movie and crazy audience made for an incredible night out. Will this happen every time? Probably not. But the movie itself was the quintessential definition of theater of the absurd. The director went to all those places that the audience would expect with a movie called Snakes on Plane that would also have an R rating.

I promised not to ruin anything but if you love cheesy action movies, applaud for the bad guy in schlock horror films, understand why there are gratuitous sex scenes in movies, and think Samuel L. Jackson is the baddest mother f@$%er in valley… then Snakes on a Plane is for you.
