Mad Max: Fury Road is set to begin filming in a matter of weeks, and after waiting the best part of three years for director George Miller’s return to the desert, Charlize Theron is raring to get started.

“I leave in like two and a half weeks and we start shooting I think around mid-July in Namibia,” says the actress. “I’m f**king dying, too, it’s been three years. It’s time to skin this cat already, so yeah, I’m very excited about it.”

“I feel like the original Mad Max created such a vivid world,” she continues, “that to go back and re-imagine it and kind of replay in that sandbox sounds like fun to me. George has really created a female character that I’ve never read anything like. I mean, I’m scared shitless!”

So what exactly can we expect from Theron’s character? Well, from the sounds of it, she’ll be anything but window dressing...

“Originally when they were like, ‘Oh, Mad Max.’ I was like, ‘Uh, I’m not going to play the fucking girl for Mad Max.’ Then I read it and I was like, ‘Oh, Mad Max. I feel sorry for you!’ That rarely happens. It’s two great characters. It’s not the original Mad Max. It’s the revamped Mad Max. It’s Tom Hardy, who’s incredible. So, the whole thing is just very, very exciting.”

Mad Max: Fury Road is expected to open in  2013, with a specific release date yet to be confirmed.

Bring it on.

It'll be hard to top the feel of the  original because it was so new at the time. Now it feels like we've seen and done these type of stories too often. But I am feeling a bit optimistic about this.

The action will need to be insane I think and I like that it sounds like they're changing it a bit, always a plus in a remake IMO

Tom Hardy is a great actor and I look forward to seeing what he can do with this role.

Road warrior still stands up. MMBTD, was gawdawful, felt so forced.  Miller is a home run hitter  who has a lot of swings and misses.  When he hits it out though, its a thing of beauty.

 No Mel isn't Mad Max.

George Miller has made some pretty good movies, but how does someone who directed Mad Max, Lorenzo's Oil and Dead Calm make The Never Ending Story Part 2?

Clayface 6/1/2012 6:44:30 PM

@DarthBob you are confused with the second George Miller working in the industry, who is a pure yes man

And Dead Calm was made by Phillip Noyce. A bit confused, aren't we?

Burned by RT again.  I keep telling myself to just stick with IMDB, but I never listen.

Yea, I am not excited at all about this.  MAD MAX was a great movie because it was original, though i wouldn't actually call it a GREAT movie (as in one of the greats).  I even liked the cheesy Road Warrior more than the first for some crazy reason.  Though Thunderdome not so much.  Still I think movies like this have been done to death now.  So not excited YET.  Maybe a trailor will get me going.  I think Theron is a great actress, a really great actress.  And I am not against re-makes as everyone here that knows me knows, but yea just not interested yet.

i hope it turnes out good. the cars for the new Mad Max movie are crazy looking. if Mel get's a part in the new film or not i still think this will be cool. remember the long hair kid that had the boomerang in  in Mad Max 2? it bee cool to tell the story of how the lone road warrior inspired him to be the next MAX. who know's, is this a new story like the rest never happend  set in an apocalyptic future again ? and why is ford puting in their concept cars in the movei? i thought all technologies came to a Halt after the war.. i'm kinda confused here some one please explain what im missing..because the new ford concept interceptor car look way to futuristic for a post apocalyptic era based film..whyle the rest of the cars look like the ones on ROAD WARRIOR ON STEROIDS.. so who has the high tech and who is restoring order in all the chaos, why is it named MAD MAX if mel is not in it? FUCK i'm getting verry confused..
