I'm actually looking forward to this.  I like what I see so far.  And I've gone on record more than once about being one of the few who really enjoyed the first one.  I think this is gonna kick ass.  Might surprise some people.

I'm right there with you VTG, although I'm not sure you want to be associated with me on that point ;)

I liked the first one for what it was - a summer popcorn flick and I had no problem with it. This one seems to  be a higher quality but it still will be a popcorn flick.

I'm there opening weekend.

Being a huge Joe fan (the Larry Hama Marvel Comics) and the early toys, I felt Rise of Cobra was a total letdown.

On the other hand, this one seems to have potential.

I'm all for TV spots but isn't this a little to early to advertise a summer movie? Understandable with the Super Bowl but this is way too early. Don't TV ads for movies normally come out about 4-6 weeks prior to the debut of the movie?

The first one was one of the worst movies ever produced, filmed, acted and portrait on film in the past 50 years of movies.

This new movie seems to leap so much higner then the first (not that it's that hard to make it better then the pile of crap it was), I admit that now I want to see the 2nd want and is probably my 3rd must see this summer.

At least the suits realized what they made first was just awful, they made it way more serious and focused.

Can't wait.

think the only people who liked the first film were those who didn't grow up as GI Joe fans... that was all that I played with as a kid! This is looking to be much better and staying closer to the original material - we'll see. It's also obvious that they wanted to make it clear to everyone that Tatum is still in it; his agent probably went off on the studio due, to all of the people making it known how happy they were that he looked to be gone... ugh.

He will probably be in a coma or something most of the movie, like he was in the comics and The GI Joe Movie. Would be a good way to keep him and get rid of him at the same time.

violator14 2/28/2012 10:55:36 AM

Momitchell-true, but it still feels like he's not in the 2nd half of the movie at all. There's even the scene we just saw where the Rock tells him, "You need a new catch phrase", Metaphorically meaning, "U suck and the producers dont want you  here anymore so you're about to die."  And in every scene he's in, he even looks like an actor pissed off who know he's about to get killed off..... haha. Hopefully I'm wrong tho, cuz GI Joe needs a freaking Duke!!

Hey @JediBanner, Hyperbole much?  Even if you didn't like the movie at all, it's not anywhere close to worst move in the last 50 years.  Just check out almost any episode of MST3K.  No way was Rise of Cobra even on the same planet of lameness that Manos the Hands of Fate or Deathstalker 3 live on.  It wasn't even the worst "blockbuster" type big budget flick...unless you're willing to on record in front of God and all the geeks that visit this site that GI Joe was somehow worse than Batman and Robin.  I don't think you're prepared to make that statement ( at least I hope not).

Mommitchell, I grew up with the toys and the cartoon, in fact I still have all my Joe stuff up in the attic.  I still was entertained by the first movie.  Over the years with all the "adaptations" that Hollywood has attempted, I've learned not to expect everything to be completely true to the source material.  It was just a fun popcorn flick that kept me fairly entertained.  It's not as if they're adapting "Macbeth" or anything.
