There was nothing wrong with Jane as the Punisher, it was the whole movie that killed his reign.  Moving things away from New York to Tampa was the biggest mistake as you just couldn't see it working as the comics had always laid them out.  I'm not dissin Tampa btw, nice place but just not as the location of The Punisher.

I remember reading somewhere that the main reason he pulled out of Warzone was because he didn't like it's direction.  He had already alledgedly written a script for a sequal to his but was turned down, sighting it being to serious and violent.  Warzone I felt was too many funny one liners and laugh kills for it to be a good movie,  that and some pretty bad acting as well. :)

I hope something comes of this.

Normally I'm posting on here about how much most things suck or are going to suck, i can' help it i'm just a ray of sunshine but i gotta say, I never understood all the hatred for War Zone.  Mostly it was an unapologetic graphic slaughterfest like most Punisher comics.  Except for the director's foolish disrespect of the costume, I thought Ray Stevenson looked the part as well.  Sure, the story wasn't great but let's be honest:m  I've got over a hundred issues of Punishe mags and I can count the great stories on my fingers.  I liked Jane's version too and like most of you, didn't like it set in Florida.  I also hated that the bad guys killed the whole family reunion, but still, it was good enough.  The point is, there really is no Citizen Kane/Godfather Punisher movie to be made.  The limitations of the source material are unavoidable.  So let Jane come back, do Stevenson again, get a new guy, I don't care.  I'll go to see it every time because I know what the Punisher is, I know what to expect and sometimes, that's just what I'm in the mood for.

My only problem with Jane's movie was the Russian did not speak like he did in the comic.  I hope powers that be let him be the Punisher again soon!  I could see this on HBO as a series.

I'm in reek's camp.  I know the character.  I know what to expect from the character.  To be perfectly honest, I liked elements of all three movies, but yes, I don't think any of them got it RIGHT.

Dolph's Punisher was what I'd want to see from the Punisher.  There was only a single flashback of his past.  No crying about it.  No revenge motives.  Nothing.  He went out, killed badguys and ate chicken.  That's all the Punisher needs to do.  I actually remember after he killed the main antagonist, he pretty much just dusted himself off and went to kill more people.  THAT, is the Punisher.

Jane's Punisher would have been right, except if it was in New York(or at least another urban enviornment), if the movie wasn't a revenge movie(it was), if he didn't carry a friggin bow and arrow(WTF) and if the movie wasn't just overall corney.

Warzone, actually, IMO was probably the best of the three.  My may two problems with it was it's camp and silly one-liners(don't fit in a Punisher universe, that and all the pretty colors) and the Punisher's costume.  Everything else was solid.  The Punisher, PUNISHED and he did it well and efficient.  That's what he needed to do.  That's what I wanted to see, THAT WAS THE PUNISHER.  But it could have bee a better movie, but it was the most faithful version of the Punisher there was.  He had the look, voice, presence that IS The Punisher.

Most people here are agreeing to one of my main tenets for movies: It's all in the execution. You can have great characters and great actors, but if you don't have a great script that is executed properly you don't get a great film in the end.

Take the movie Inception. If that had been done by-I don't know, fill in the blank of your most hated director- it could have been pretty bad. Jane gets the character and obviously director Joanou does, too. They just need to have the the Powers That Be realize that and give them a TV series. I personally don't want another movie.

Well said Shotgunn2517, best way to describe all 3 movies.

Maybe i havent read all the comments in length, and I don't mind Jane as the Punisher, as you said by default. But I gotta agree that Perlmans performance was awesome, and it could've been a JD promo. But there are some technical issues. Are we to believe that a bottle of Jack, while heavy wouldn't shatter after being used to bludgeon 6 guys to death? and secondly, JD is 80 proof at best, and far from as flammable as the people who made this movie would have you believe.

 That.  Was.  Awesome.

Phetus, LOL! Yeah, this sounds like a call for crazy youtube videos. We get a bunch of teens drunk and have them record themselves smacking each other with different liquor bottles to see if Jack Daniels can take the punishment of being thrown about and bashing people in the head. Then we'll need them to splash each other with whiskey and see how flammable it is.

Come to think of it, some college students have probably already done this stuff. Search the Youtube!!!
