WARNING: This interview with Thomas Kretschmann contains SPOILERS!
The name Thomas Kretschmann may not mean much to you now, but with three films coming out with some of the most well known celebrities in the world including none other than Tom Cruise, Kretschmann may soon become a household name.
Krestschmann plays the role of Cross co-starring alongside James McAvoy in 'Wanted', which opens June 27. He plays the man responsible for the death of one of the elite members of the Fraternity who is also the father of McAvoy's character, Wesley.
However, Kretschmann's character may not be who he initially appears to be.
Kretschmann was born in East Germany and escaped on foot by running. Kretschmann jokes that it was his preparation for the film,
"I escaped successfully running, but that was twenty years ago so I was a little bit screwed."
Kretschmann actually does run a great deal in the film and performed many of his own stunts.
"I wouldn't even call it stunts. Stunts for me, is like, jumping from one building to the next. All the fighting stuff we did ourselves. It doesn't require too much knowledge I think if you are physically OK. We had a lot of bruises and we were hanging on some wires. The car chasing stuff it's like you are sitting in a chair and you drive and you shoot a little bit. I am involved with everything you see on screen though."
When asked about his experience with the film, Kretschmann says he was pretty amazed he was even selected to be in the film in the first place.
"I feel very lucky to be in the film because this is a film the other ones do. This is a cool film and you sit in the movie theater and you say I wish I could be in a movie like this just once. This is a part I usually don't get. I was surprised they offered me the part and I didn't ask twice. I took it and I'm really glad I did it."
Did Kretschmann find the role challenging?
"I made sure everything I'm doing made sense and the rest is up to the director and the plot of the movie. I just had to do what Cross would do and I'm somebody who likes to make sense of it and be strict with my character. I try to keep it simple."
Look for more from Kreschmann and the rest of the cast and crew of 'Wanted' all this week. 'Wanted' opens June 27th in theaters everywhere.
