
On Superbowl Sunday, footballfans saw Marvel comics characters team-up with Visa Check Card for a spotthat showcased: Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Storm, and Thor.Eli McElmurray of theMarvel Comics Live Action Group had a chance to sit down withGunter Schlierkamp, the professionalbodybuilder who plays Thor in the advertisement.
Eli McElmurray (EM):How did you come to play Thor in Visa's Superbowl ad?
GunterSchlierkamp (GS):My agent sent me out to the audition. I walked in and I was sure, I am theright guy for the part. I was just confident.
EM: Did you know thecharacter you were to play?
GS:: No, I did notknow which character I would play, it could have been Captain Americaor Wolverine.
EM: What did you doto prepare for your role?
GS:: I put myselfin the shoes of a superhero. I was confident that I could do it. Ibelieve you can do everything you want to do.
EM: How long did ittake you to get ready to play your role?
GS:: At the set acouple of minutes, but the costume took a hole week.
EM: What was itlike once you put the costume on?
GS:: It was anawsome feeling to look like a superhero out of Marvel Comic Books. I almostfelt like a real live superhero.
EM: Has thiscommerical helped in your career?
GS:: I don't know yet,but a lot of people say I look like a superhero. As a bodybuilder I have a lotof fans and they all think I should go into movies. I hope the right people inthe movie industry see that too.
EM: Why didn't theygive you a speaking part?
GS:: I had speakingparts but the way the cormercial is cut it doesn't appear. They cut speakingparts from the other caracters too.
EM: What would yousay if Marvel asked you to film Thor in a movie?
GS:: It would be anhonour to play a part in a Marvel movie. I started taking acting and swordfighting lessons. I know that I can do it and some day it will happen. Iwould do what ever it takes to be the best superhero that Marvel hasever seen.
