Jones Offered JUDGE DREDD

One of our favorite science fiction movies of the past few years was the subtle, emotional Moon starring Sam Rockwell. Latino Review chatted with director Duncan Jones, who is putting the finishing touches on his new movie Source Code. Jones revealed that he was offered the job directing Judge Dredd but turned it down.

"I would have loved to do the Judge Dredd movie that is underway. I was in fact sent the script to look at. Its a great script, and I hope I will not rue the decision of passing on it," Jones said. "Thing was, I had such a strong idea of what I wanted to do with a Dredd movie, I could not bring myself to take it on and not do it my way! And it's not like I could do it as a sequel either; my Dredd would have been really weird, and dark and funny, but not your traditional introduction to a hero character. I don't even know if I could have made my version of the film pitch-able. It was maybe too off the wall."

Wright Says ANT-MAN Movie Doesn't Fit AVENGERS Time Line

Cinemablend chatted with director Edgar Wright this week and pried loose some comments about his long-planned Ant-Man movie. On many fans minds is the question of whether or not the character will appear in The Avengers as initially planned. Rumors (groundless though they may be) that the character is in the movie and that certain actors are attached to play him have been rampant in recent months.

Wright told Cinemablend that he's had conversations with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige about how the Marvel mini-hero fits into the super group pic.  Based

"The chronology of [Wright's Ant-Man script] or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do. And my film is very much an introduction to that character, and so it wasn’t something where it felt right to introduce him in that film," Wright said, "Maybe if I do the solo Ant-Man film and maybe there’s a later Avengers then they could draft him in later. But it didn’t work with the kind of the angle that we were going to do with the origin that I’d written."

Yesterday Eva Longoria debunked the idea that she'd appear as the Wasp in The Avengers. Now it looks as if Ant-Man will have to wait as well.

Thanks to Wiseguy for the submission.

One of the upcoming adaptations we can't wait to see is the Cartoon Network CGI original film Firebreather, based on the awesome comics by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. The network screened the first footage from the movie, directed by Aeon Flux creator Peter Chung, at Comic-Con on Sunday.

Now, Comics Continuum has posted the clip online.

Firebreather deals with Duncan Rosenblatt, a teen who is half human/half dragon. This scene finds the outcast youngster fleeing from some high school bullies. We're still waiting for a good look at Duncan in full, Firebreather form, battling some Kuhn-a-rifiic monsters, but this will do for now...

SMALLVILLE Season 10 Trailer

Smallville launches into its final season this fall and The CW has released a trailer for the upcoming run. Did we just see a red cape?!

Bloody Disgusting has our first look at the direct-to-home-entertainment sequel 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. We gotta say, we like what we see here as Stella Oleson (now played by Kiele Sanchez), goes on the offensive and takes the fight out of Barrow, Alaska and to the vampires wherever they may hide.

THOR Footage Online!

Here's a clip that needs no introduction (but we'll give one anyway): Almost six minutes of Thor that were presented to a screaming audience at Comic-Con on Saturday night. Watch it while you can!

UPDATED: Sorry! Paramount is telling us that asking websites not to carry the Thor footage, which was not part of a controlled, studio-orchestrated leak. We are, of course, happy to cooperate.

Thanks to Miner49er and AntoBlueberry for the submission.

Just saw the THOR trailer thanks to ElBaz, glad to see Rob has it embedded.

THOR is pure awesomeness. Man I'm giddy with excitement. Love everything, even the look of Asgard. I like how Branagh has straddled the line between high tech and what I'd think Asgard might look like. Plus seeing everybody with their headgear on was a beautiful thing. Need more Sif though

The Thor trailer excites me in a way the Iron Man trailer did yet different. So much good stuff lined up for 2011 it's ridiculous. Now they just have to prove that Captain America won't suck and I'll give them carte blanche to do whatever they want with any property in the film realm.

Wiseguy 7/29/2010 7:48:47 AM

I needed a few minutes to digest the awesome THOR trailer

OK, really looking forward to Smallville. Mixed feelings about it coming to an end. Despite all its flaws it's been a nice ride but we also glad that we finally see Clark don the cape and fly. Wonder who giftwrapped the suit for him, has to be Martha saving it for him once he was ready, that's my guess

Dark Days looks pretty sweet too. Too bad Melisa George didn't come back but the trailer looked good IMO. It looked theater worthy IMO, definitely buying it as soon as it drops.

The Avengers toon looked good as well. The song isn't great but it isn't a music video. I'll be setting my tivo for it this fall

Ozymandas 7/29/2010 8:00:54 AM

Whew! Great trailer!

HudsonTaco 7/29/2010 8:04:32 AM

I saw the Thor Trailer ealier this morning as well, looking good. It is the one Marvel film I am most worried about because of the mystical elements but I am impressed with what I have seen so far. BTW I know next to nothing about Thor so that is also a good sign.

Smallville, is that still on the air? How does this show get 10 years but a show like  Firefly gets 10 episodes. Smallville had alot of potential but squandered all of it, should have ended long ago. I hope they give fans who have stuck with them something good but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wiseguy 7/29/2010 8:14:04 AM

The THOR trailer doesn't seem to want to play here but it's on at traileraddict under the comicon link or at this link ElBaz passed

Officially STOKED for THOR!

Previously, I really didn't care, but it looks EPIC!

8man 7/29/2010 8:50:04 AM

I know the purists won't be happy about Ant Man, but I always thought the character was lame. Pym was nothing until he became Goliath! I'll take Hawkeye and the Black Widow instead as a great consolation prize.

Holy crap! Was that a cape? Altogether now, "Superman, the man of steel. Superman....Rocketed to earth when the distant planet Krypton exploded, he fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way."

Double holy crap! Thor looks awesome! The cast out son. The treacherous brother. The earthly love. The battle to regain his birthright and his kingdom. And then the war to protect Midgard from the devastating Destroyer. Let the hammer fly, baby! Ye Gods! Verily said epic will rock!

Wiseguy 7/29/2010 8:56:29 AM

Happy to see the Rainbow Bridge, the Warriors Three, Sif, Heimdall and I'm guessing Balder was that other guy walking along with Thor and his crew.

And Hemsworth looks totally badass in action in full uniform at the end of the clip

Like Chriss above, I don't think I've been this excited since that first IronMan trailer. Maybe a little more because I'm a bigger Thor fan and even bigger CaptAmerica fan. But I think this is going to be the superhero movie of the summer right now

Okay, I'm going to shut up now. Going to hit the gym and make good use of this energy

monkeyfoot 7/29/2010 8:58:18 AM

Like I said on the Yogi thread, Thor looks great! The trailer seems to be popping up in alot of places. Now they will have to offically release it in nice HD quality.
