Three FANTASTIC FOURs

Marvel Comics has pulled a shocker on fans of the world's greatest comic magazine, FANTASTIC FOUR. Settling the controversy that erupted four months ago when FF writer Mark Waid was dismissed from the book (followed shortly thereafter by artist Mike Wieringo who walked with Waid), Marvel has announced that Waid and Wieringo will return as the regular creative team starting with issue #509.

So what happened with the previously announced writer who was set to inherit the FF book, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Well, he's not out of a job. In fact, he's getting a brand-new FANTASTIC FOUR series, one grounded a little more in reality and under the Marvel Knights banner. Together with artist Steve McNiven, Aguirre-Sacasa's new FF book will launch in February 2004.

And don't forget that there's also an ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR series launching this December, set in Marvel's Ultimate universe. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar with art by Adam Kubert, a preview of the series is available in the new WIZARD and MARVEL PREVIEWS.

"Fandom spoke and so did our own hearts, and we listened to both," said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada in a press release issued by the company. "Never let it be said that at Marvel we can't own up to our mistakes. I'm just thrilled that Mark and Mike decided to stay after all the craziness that went down. Fandom rejoice, it's salad days for the FF you know and love!"
