I'm thinking dark comedy, MJE. I don't know why the movie "21" popped in my head when I read the plot concept. Brain fart, probably.

Who says it takes a decent IQ to build a criminal empire? Well, Hollywood will try teaching the concept to those lacking the intelligence because Variety reports that Gary Oldman, Malin Akerman and Milo Ventimiglia have all joined the gangster film Criminal Empire for Dummys. The three will be joining the previously cast thespians Michael Clarke Duncan and Harvey Keitel. TV director Cliff Dorfman ("Entourage") is making his feature directorial debut based on a script he wrote. Production is scheduled to begin shooting late March in New Orleans.
Plot Concept: The movie centers on a charismatic young man (Ventimiglia) who relates the do's and don'ts of running a criminal empire through a flashback to his own rise from a tragic childhood and life in the ghetto to eventual position as a multinational drug and criminal kingpin.

Man - what happened to Oldman retiring? Not that I want him to but I thought he said he was. This movie sounds pretty good. I wonder if it's going to be a comedy - it doesn't sound that way through the premise but the title makes it sound so.
