Three titles sell out at Marvel

Marvel has announced via press release that three titles, New Avengers #28, Ms. Marvel #13 and Thunderbolts #112, have sold out their initial printing.

Press Release:

Civil War is over and Tony Stark and Marvel are finding that the Initiative is proving to be a huge success. New Avengers #28, Ms. Marvel #13 and Thunderbolts #112, three titles involving Marvel’s bold new direction, the Initiative, have sold out at Diamond.

In New Avengers #28, a team of underground heroes who refuse to subscribe to the Registration Act must not only take down planetary threats, but are forced to duck other heroes from the Initiative who are hunting them.

Dave Wallace of SilverBulletComicBooks.com says, “This is one book which has really benefited from the fallout of Civil War. The story of the New Avengers has gained a new sense of immediacy as a result of the group's status as outlaw heroes, pitting them not only against their more traditional comic book villains, but also against their own pro-registration brethren, giving the team an "outsider" vibe which makes them more attractive and more fun to root for. Bendis' writing is fun and energetic and…Leinil Yu again shows off his immense artistic talent here.”

Ms. Marvel, both the title and the character, have been greatly affected by the end of Civil War as Carol Danvers, on her quest to the be the best of the best, actually becomes leader of the Mighty Avengers.

Paul King of ComicBloc.com says, “This title is easily the best female superhero title on the market right now. It is intelligently written and beautifully rendered. This issue is accessible and appropriate for everyone.”

Thunderbolts twists the long-running theme of the T-bolts as a team of villains looking for redemption into a team comprised of the worst villains being forced to work for the government.

Adam Chapman of Comixtreme.com calls Thunderbolts #112 “extremely well written” and “the art by Deodato Jr. continues to impress.”

Watch as the new Initiative continues to shake the Marvel U to its very core and changes the status quo of your favorite heroes.

Marvel currently does not plan to go back to press on New Avengers #28, Ms. Marvel #13, or Thunderbolts #112. Note, there may be copies of these issues at the retailer level.

Not from my wallet. I know I'll be back at some point, but I'm done with the main Marvel universe for now.

Civil war has been the best storyline in years bringing in new readers and a few that have not collected in years for me. Don't worry Cap USA will be back!

Civil War was very good up until the last two books. You'd figger with all the delays it would've turned out better. Oh well, let's hope that Ultimates 13 doesn't dissapoint as well, since it has been delayed now for many, many months.

Since when did it become acceptable to delay books like this??

"Since when did it become acceptable to delay books like this??"

Since Image Comics nearly crashed the industry in the 90s. One word: Wetworks.

Not from my wallet either, ponyboy76.
I kept up with Civil War crap by reading at the book store and by "borrowing from others who let me read their copies" (I'll let you interpret that as you may.)

Marvel does have me buying their X-Books right now (New X-Men, X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Astonishing X-Men, though Uncanny is hit or miss) but they are really barely touched by Civil War if at all.

DC, however . . . man, they are robbing me blind!

That's kind of strange, Merin, and I didn't really notice it until you said anything. The X-Men remained surprsingly (virtually) untouched by the Civil War. I wonder why.

There was a four-part X-Men Civil War story that I did buy - it was the original team (minus Jean) and so I'm a sucker.

Outside of that, I'd say the X-Men were ignored for the following reasons:

1 - The Mutant Registration Act still exists.
2 - Decimation left only a handful of mutants left so they are not as much an issue.
3 - All the writers on the books wanted nothing to do with the Civil War garbage.

One of the things that irks me is that the X-Men have always fought against this kind of discrimination and have decided to sit this one out. *shakes head* Except for Bishop, the jerk.

Carol is still about as generic as a superheroine as you can find. I like both Spider-Women better.

And the focus group that Tony mentioned is indicative of everything that is wrong with the "new" Mighty Avengers.

Yeah, Ms. Marvel as she's been written by Bendis since House of M really stinks.

I liked Warbird during the Busiek/Perez Avengers.
