Reporter Edward Douglas had a chance to catch up with actor Tim Roth about his part in the upcoming INCREDIBLE HULK. In the brief interview, they touched about his character Emil Blonsky not being Russian, his part in the filming being finished and his involvement with the visual FX work of the Abomination character.

Plot Summary: "The Incredible Hulk" kicks off an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular superheroes of all time. In this new beginning, scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) desperately hunts for a cure to the gamma radiation that poisoned his cells and unleashes the unbridled force of rage within him: The Hulk.

Living in the shadows--cut off from a life he knew and the woman he loves, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler)--Banner struggles to avoid the obsessive pursuit of his nemesis, General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), and the military machinery that seeks to capture him and brutally exploit his power.

As all three grapple with the secrets that led to The Hulk's creation, they are confronted with a monstrous new adversary known as The Abomination (Tim Roth), whose destructive strength exceeds even The Hulk's own. And on June 13, 2008, one scientist must make an agonizing final choice: accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or find heroism in the creature he holds inside--The Incredible Hulk.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK hits theaters June 13, 2008.

Tim Roth is a brilliant actor, loved his work all around; especially when he plays a villain. I can't wait to see his take on the Abomination. After seeing some early shots of what the creature will look like (more like a reptilian cross between Doomsday and Abomination-very cool) I'm sure his acting will transcend all the c.g. stuff. Can't wait to see this one.

I'm not really familiar with Roth, but I'm starting to get a little excited about this movie. Not a lot though. I'm looking forward to the trailer. That's when I'll know.

Where did you see shots of the Abomination, is there a link you can share?

I would think that if there were any official shots (even early ones) they would've been all over the net. I must say that I'm surprised that there haven't been any major leaks about this movie. Maybe they're still early with the cgi. Seven months until its release, usually they let something substantial out by now.
As for the Abomination not being Russian, I don't think it's a big deal. I mean he was created during the cold war. When he was the evil russian, nemesis to the good American Hulk. Now a days it's not so black and white. At least for most people.

SOOOOOO JACKED.... did I mention I'm jacked? I'm cool with Blonsky not being Russian. They never really paly that up about his character any more anyway. To Wiseguys point, that plot device only realy worked when Russia was the bad guy. I have been Googling the word Abomination every day for like 3 month waiting for one shot of the beast in the digital flesh... if anyone catches a leak let us Geeks know about it ASAP!

almostunbiased, if you want to see some of Roth at his best (IMO), check out Pulp Fiction, Four Rooms, Reservoir Dogs, and Rob Roy. I guess he was going to play Snape in the Harry Potter movies, but wasn't able to finish up with Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes in time for the first movie.

Yeah lets make the Abomination a woman or a gay guy or...come on it's part of the universe that he was a Russian spy which is still believable today. That's a pretty big hole for me in the movie so far. Lets make it a muslim Abomination that's even better! Where the character is from is very important to a story.

I will just have to concentrate on Liv Tyler more.....

TKay42one • Dec 03, 2007, 09:14pm •
Come on, it's not like they're changing his name to Joe Smith or anything like that. With a name like Emil Blonsky, isn't it obvious that he's at least of Russian descent? Anybody want to bitch about Wolverine being played by a 6'2 guy while we're at it?

gauleyboy420 • Dec 03, 2007, 10:01pm •
Dazzler,
Go to extremes much?
C'mon, I'm the biggest whiner about the first Hulk movie on this site, but it's never about aesthetics. As someone pointed out Blonsky is still of Russian decent, AND we haven't seen if they will keep his core character true to the source material. AND while the abominaton is really cool, he's really not that big of a player in the Hulk Universe. How many story arcs have we seen him in in the last 5 years?

Dazzler • Dec 04, 2007, 06:58am •
Not that big in the universe Gauleyboy420? He tried to kill Betty and came pretty close. He came the closest to killing the Hulk blow for blow in past fights. In fact w/o the temper on the Hulk's side he would have lost. It's just lazy storytelling if he's not Russian.

Did it matter if Drago was not Russian in Rocky IV?
