Timothy Olyphant officially joins "Hitman"

As was previously reported, Timothy Olyphant has signed on to star in the big screen adaptation of the video game Hitman.  The signing has now been confirmed by Variety.

The script, written by Skip Woods, is based on the Hitman video game franchise set in the world of Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin.

Variety also reported that Fox hopes to make a franchise out of the title and structured Olyphant's contract accordingly.

The film is reportedly aiming to be in theaters quickly, with production beginning in March and a possible release late next year.

KJ's Take:  Could be interesting as the game is a lot of fun, but more than likely it goes the way of other video game adaptations.  Prove me wrong Fox, prove me wrong.

I don`t know if Timothy Olyphant was necessarily such a great choice to play 47, but I do know Timothy Dalton would definitely have been the wrong choice. I do have a feeling that this could either be another Bourne Identity hit or a Doom flop.

I dont think its a good idea either. I mean i like this guy in the other movies he's been in but he doesnt really play main characters. Vin Diesel was just slated to play Agent 47 and I thought that was a great choice! But he had to back out due that he has his plate full I guess. When I read this I went onto IMDB and Hitman was taken off his credits. But who knows maybe this is what he needs to break big and show people he can play a main character lead role. I will probably go see this....

JD you would have made a perfect hitman!!! There are not too many actors that I think of when I imagine the Hitman as a real person. Strangly I think of Vince Vaugn. Don't ask me why... Why couldn't Yul Brenner still be alive?

Olyphant plays a good badass. I don't know if the movie adaptation will work or not, but I'm betting Olyphant makes a good showing.

Never played the game, but Olyphant is a decent enough actor. It's all gonna depend on the script. We shall see.

Olyphant does great in Deadwood, I love the game series. As fft says, if the script is good, the movie should be good too.

You give Olyphant some decent material, and he'll do right by it. He's a talented actor.

I think the draw of the game was the elaborate ways to have 47 kill his target; if they can capture that, perhaps even copy several of the good ideas from the game, they can have an entertaining movie. I still remember the first level of Hitman I ever played, where I had to off a dirty cop and a mob boss at a restraunt, but of course you get frisked at the door. You had to find a window to the bathroom at the back, and hide your weapons there. Then can enter the restaurant for the meeting, go to the restroom and come out blasting. Actually, that was not the most creative one, but it just comes to mind since that is the first level of the game I played. Anyone else have a favorite elaborate kill from the games?
