According to Walt Disney Pictures, the upcoming animated feature, Tinker Bell, will be released straight to DVD in the Fall of 2008.

Brittany Murphy will lend her voice to the title character which will mark the first time audiences have heard an animated Tinker Bell speak.  Disney plans to bring to life an enchanting tale of Pixie Hollow and Tink's new fairy friends who will be voiced by some of Hollywood's most talented actors.

"'Tinker Bell' represents an incredible franchise opportunity in the home entertainment category," said Bob Chapek, president of BVWHE. "Audiences will get to know Tinker Bell like never before, and will fall in love with her all over again."

KJ's Take:  Disney has made more money off direct to DVD franchises than ANY other studio, in fact, they proved to major studios that it could be an immensely profitable business.  It doesn't hurt that they are a well known and respected for children's animation, or that they have a slew of classic characters to plug into various stories.  This sounds like a can't miss franchise for Disney, kids will eat it up.

Nothing will ever beat the live action Peter Pan, the movie was great and so was that Tinker Bell.

I kind of liked Tinkerbell being a mute, it made her special.

(Though I did like Julia Roberts' Tinkerbell in the movie Hook).
