More Gods and 3D coming for Clash of the Titans.

By Jarrod Sarafin     December 21, 2009
Source: Los Angeles Times

While sitting down with the Los Angeles Times to discuss his latest release Avatar, actor Sam Worthington made some interesting comments in regards to his next action-adventure Clash of the Titans. He revealed to the paper that Warner Bros. Pictures and director Louis Leterrier are going back to shoot more scenes in the near future, add more gods to the film and it's looking like the film will be translated to 3D formats.

"The studio is also letting us add some gods and scenes. And they're talking about making the movie a 3D film."

Check out what else has to say here. The latest trailer, released last week, is down below.

The film stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Jason Flemyng, Alexa Davalos, Izabella Miko, Nicholas Hoult and Pete Postlethwaite. Director Louis Leterrier helmed from a story by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

Plot Concept: Story centers on the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Clash of the Titans will hit theaters March 26, 2010.

I have to admit, my "spidey senses" do flare up when there's talk of re-shoots or anything of the like. I know it happened with LOTR but that was 3 films being shot as one so I can see where there could be scenes added, especially once the first was certified hit.

Anyway, I hope this ends well, the trailer sure as hell looks kickass.

And let me say "hooray" for 3D conversion, I hope they do it. This would look awesome in the format. Hopefully that'll spur studios to greenlight the conversion of other films like LOTR, The Matrix and Spiderman for ex.. It's another way for the studios to double-dip and squeeze some more money from these films

It's great that it's going to be 3D but the bad thing about a 3D conversion is it takes a lot of time and money wheras if it is shot in 3D initially, there is much less to do in post.  I've done three 3D conversions for Imax and they only ever do chunks of the film since they have to have final footage to do it.  It would be great to do an entire film though.  And with the prevalence of 3D now, us artists while working at Imax have had many conversations about how they should definitely go back and do some great catelogue films like the ones you said Wiseguy.  The film I would most want to see converted into 3D would be Terminator 2.  That would be fun to see again.

Was the first paragraph in the article really necessary if you're just going to give us a two-line quote that states the exact same thing?

I'm so fed up with 3-d this and 3-d that. I understand that there is a generation and technology advances make 3-d cooking shows, lol look cool. But stop it with the gimmicks and give us substance. Dont destroy a classic with smoke and mirriors. But in the end its all about making a buck and right now 3-d everything is the rage, unfortunately.

I absolutely am starting to f*cking abhor th 3D b*tchers and whiners.  F*ck off.  You are the same f*ckers that would complain if things went from black and white to color or even before that when movies went from no sound to sound.  If you don't f*cking like it shut the f*ck up and read a g*ddamn book - I think it's pretty safe to say outside of the Kindle and the likes that they'll will stay up witht the current "technology" and not make your pretty little head hurt with their new ideas and innovations.

I mean at what point does it stop being a g*ddamn gimmick to you stupid f*cking A-holes?  Yeah, I know everybody has a right to their own opinion but an opinion against 3D is just stupid and borderline retarded especially now.  I see how they use to do it back then when it first came out how it was kind of hoaky but now they are doing where it's not so blatant and in your face that it's 3D.  It's proven itself over and over again in the past few years as something legit and entertaining that does add its own merit to the film.  AND is not something to try making a turn look polished.

As for this film I don't think they're talking are talking reshoots but instead of they are letting him add additional scenes, which I think means something to look forward to even more.  They did the sam with Inglorious Basterds and I think it's the first time they actually asked somebody then to actually add more movie because it was well done.  Not that we know if they asked this guy to add more movie - in this case they are just letting him.  But still.  I can't wait.

Amen!  Preach on brother!

There are two definitions of gimmick.  One applies to the current 3D trend and one only partially.  Unfortunately some people are of the opinion that only the second definition applies.

noun -  "an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal."

verb - " to equip or embellish with unnecessary features, esp. in order to increase salability, acceptance, etc"

With the prevalence of home theaters, 3D is being used to attract moviegoers into the theaters.  Ie. It attracts attention and increases salability.  Sure one could argue that it is unnecessary, but it is a cool feature that definitely adds to the film experience as a whole.  As long as it's not being used, like MrJBE said, in a "hoaky" way.  Like simply throwing it in so certain objects fly towards you once in a while.  That's how it used to be and yes, that got lame pretty fast.  Now 3D is used to simply add a sense of true depth to the film.  Things that are farther actually look farther in space to your eye rather than just being smaller in frame.

So yes, 3D is a gimmick, but it's a great gimmick that enhances a film and helps the film industry prosper as a whole.

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 12/21/2009 9:28:47 AM

Oh, yeah,I meant "turd" look polished.

Wiseguy 12/21/2009 12:27:24 PM

One more thing, I said this before, the bitching isn't necessary cause I've yet to see a 3D only film. So far they always have put them out in 2D and 3D so it's not like you're being obligated to see them in 3D. But since the public so far has been and keeps leaning towards 3D, and who can't blame them, this may change in the future but for now the biatching is useless. Embrace the future

scytheofluna 12/21/2009 2:12:10 PM

Yeah as a former 3D skeptic I gotta' say Avatar completely converted me.  Cheap jump out shots and lame stunts that overtly break the third wall would annoy me, but done the right way this format is the future.  If you haven't seen Avatar in 3D, then don't pass judgement.  This is a far cry from Vincent Price's House of Wax, or that lame Jaws sequel they did in crappy 3D.  This is completely different.  At this point Wise is correct.  You don't HAVE to see most of the current crop of films in 3D.  I don't give a rat's ass about Shrek, but seeing the 3D trailer I have to admit, if I was 8 I'd be sh*tting myself to see it.

Titans looks awesome.  Being of Spartan stock myself, I've always loved Greek mythology and I loved the original growing up.  The trailer makes me want a God of War film even more.

Chanting with Scytheofluna ---->God of War, God of  War, God of War, God of War....I'll put some money down that this new Titans movie will get the God of  War gears turning and hopefuly they can get Cameron to do it...I know, wishful thinking but why not? Del Torro possibly? Anyways, looking forward to watching all movies that appeal to me in both 2-D and 3-D format...
