It looks like the adaptation of Max Brooks' World War Z and the date of December 21st won't share a apocalyptic theme. Despite the Brad Pitt-led vehicle being set aside for the infamous Mayan date, Paramount Pictures has pushed the project back half a year. It will now be striking theaters on June 21, 2013, a mere week after Warner Bros. Pictures unleashes Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (June 14).

With the "Z" day shifting backwards, the studio has inserted their planned adaptation of the Jack Reacher novel series---One Shot---into the December 21, 2012 release window. That film will star Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, Alexia Fast, Robert Duvall, Jai Courtney and Werner Herzog.

Paramount has also given a release date for the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adventure. Produced by Michael Bay and Brad Fuller's Platinum Dunes, the studio believes it will bank the most cash with a release on the holiday of December 25, 2013. Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) is likely set at the helm. Writers Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco all played a part in the scripting process.

Just finished the World War Z book and it was better than I was expecting.  I'm looking forward to the movie as I am imagining a globetrotting, multinational feel a la Contagion combined with the zombie apocalypse of Walking Dead.

Why would they do this?  That release date was so perfect.  And six months?  A lot of times when a movie's release date gets changed that drastically, it ends up going straight to vid.  I'm just sayin'.

June 21 is also the day Disney releases Monsters University. I'm thinking that pushing the release date back isn't a good thing here.  I don't see World War Z as a summer movie. It isn't going to have a broad appeal. Maybe the studio is afraid of The Hobbit, Les Miz, Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained.  This movie really seems to be shaping up as a real hack job. Too bad since the book is an excellent read.

Maybe they are having production issues. If we said the same thing about Blizzard, we would be eating our words. I hope they pushed it back to get things right. I loved the book.

Nice to see Michael Bay's name attached to TMNT, that should give it a much needed touch of class.  Excuse me, I must go hang myself now.

Just started reading World War Z. Zombie books aren't really my thing. I don't hate em' but I don't think they are ever on my "pick this up" list. Maybe it will suprise me though and be a great read.

I'm looking forward to the TMNT film. I just hope they don't start from the beginning. Just jump right into it like the animation movie that came out a few years ago.
