TNT, Dreamworks Television and Steven Spielberg will team to make a six-hour miniseries based on the Stephen King supernatural thriller The Talisman.

The series will tell the story of Jack Sawyer, a boy who goes on a quest through this world and through a parallel world known as "The Territories" on a mission to obtain a mysterious talisman that will save his dying mother's life and that of her "twinner," the Queen of the Territories.

Spielberg will executive produce the series, which should launch in the summer of 2008.

So, it only took Spielberg 20 years to finally get this made, huh? I remember when the paperback version came out and it said "Soon to be a major motion picture!" on the back cover. Glad I didn't hold my breath. Oh, and way to screw Peter ("Ghost Story") Straub out of his co-author credit, Karl. Even if TNT omitted him in their press release, you shouldn't have. And, what's this do to the in-development "Black House" (sequel to "The Talisman" by King & Straub) theatrical release?

Whoa...almost like Neil Gaiman sorta copied it for his novel "Mirrormask"...

I haven't read this since it first came out in hardcover, guess I'll have to dust it off and reread it. If memory serves, this may be a better way to make this, rather than a theatrical movie. Hopefully it will lean towards some of the better adaptations and not follow the likes of the new Salem's Lot or Desperation, they really stunk it up. And please, please, keep Mick garris away from it.
