How to Use an XBox Live Video Game Membership
By Shanika Chapman
OverviewHaving only a gamertag profile on your Microsoft Xbox 360 does not mean that you are getting the full use out of your game console. The Xbox Live service for the Xbox 360 expands the enjoyment of the console immensely. With features such as cooperative and competitive gameplay, Netflix instant streaming movies, downloadable content for games and even game shows you can play interactively, the Xbox Live service is a must have for any Xbox 360 owner.
Step 1Plug an ethernet cable into your Microsoft Xbox 360 and your router so that you will be able to connect to the Xbox Live service.
Step 2Turn on your Xbox 360 by either pressing the power button on the front of the console or holding the Xbox 360 guide button located in the middle of your controller.
Step 3Go to My Xbox once the Xbox dashboard loads and select Sign In by pressing the A button.
Step 4Select the profile you would like to sign up for the Xbox Live service and press the A button.
Step 5Select Join Xbox Live and press the A button.
Step 6Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial membership registration process. The Silver Xbox Live membership, which is free, only allows you to purchase games from the Xbox Live service. The Gold Xbox Live membership, which is a paid service, allows you to fully utilize the service, including using online multiplayer, which you cannot do with the Silver membership. You can purchase the Gold Xbox Live membership by either registering your credit card information with Microsoft during the registration or using a prepaid card that has a redeemable code. See the link below to purchase a prepaid Xbox Live Gold membership card.
Step 7Complete your registration, and then you will be able to navigate the new features available to you. If you have opted for an Xbox Live Gold membership, you can play any game that supports online multiplayer and select either a Multiplayer option or an Xbox Live option to begin playing against other Xbox Live Gold users and even invite your online friends to your own games.
