Tobey Maguire done with "Spider-Man"?

According to an interview with The Courier-Mail,  Tobey Maguire might be done with the Spider-Man franchise.

"To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie," Maguire says.

"It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end."

The third installment releases on May 4th.

KJ's Take:  I don't doubt him, he has always been iffy about coming back.  I think he is worried about becoming type cast in the role ...

BUT COME THE HECK ON!@!  It's friggin Spider-Man!!  What else have you done Tobey??  Ride a horse in Sea Biscuit?  Come on man, don't be a fool, this is your god given meal ticket.  Ride it's $20 million dollar waves until they stop making them.

No way, KJ. I say Tobey should get out while the getting's good. Right now, he's still a respected star. If he stays with the franchise until Schumacher comes on board and adds nipples and butt cleavage to the suit, he'll become more tired than Tom Cruise.

Maybe they could get Vinny Chase to take over for him...

Well, Sleeper, I agree that if Sam leaves the directors chair, then he should consider leaving dependent upon who comes in to helm the film.

But everything I have read says Sam will be back to direct the next installment.

Yeah, but I heard Sam will do a forth, so I hope they talk Tobey into a forth for the sake of the franchise. I don't want to see a different Peter Parker. Plus, he won't be type cast. He's had a long line of success before this and he's a good actor. He'll be fine. It's just up to him to decide if he wants to keep doing the same thing. I suppose that could get old.

Tobey Maguire was a respected star before spider man and will be afterwards also...I say keep doing it until he gets bored with it and if it has come to that point then head out, nothing worse than a bored actor with a franchise whos just there for the money...KJ, once again don't agree with you...He has already earned his meal ticket not to mention spider man has taken up alot of his time and that is why you have not seen him do much other than that...

Usually a third movie is when a series starts going downhill. I think its time to end the series while it is still on top. Remember Batman and Robin and Superman IV.

Superman IV ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! How about Superman III ?!? I still wish I had never seen either one of those turds. And they should have stopped with one Highlander too.

Oh paaahhhleazzeeee.

Taken up a lot of his time?? Give me a break. Who else has been in this franchise movie after movie?

Dunst? Look at all the films she's done:

Marie Antoinette
Elizabethtown
Wimbledon
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Mona Lisa Smile

Didn't hinder her at all.

Franco? Look at all he's done:

Tristan and Isolde
The Great Raid
Annapolis
Flyboys
Wickerman
The Dead Girl
and other smaller films.

What has Tobey done?

The Good German. Nothing else. Don't give me this time crap, he has plenty of time to go out and snag roles, all the rest of the cast is.

If you've got to recast the role (and I hope you don't), I've got to go with Milo Ventimiglia, the dude that plays Peter Patrelli on Heroes. Episode before last when he went all dark against Isaac reminded me of "Dark Peter" in the clips from Spider Man 3. I definitely think he could pull off the Peter Parker role.

For an idea of the whole Ventimiglia as Peter Parker thing, check out imdb's page for Milo Ventimiglia. I just looked and, damn, I swear I thought one of those pics was Tobey Maguire.
